Lockheed Martin drew a pair of higher price targets on Friday, yet the split in how Wall Street reads the defense contractor's outlook was on full display. Citi lifted its target to $706 from $691 while keeping a Buy rating, and RBC Capital raised its own to $600 from $550 without budging from Sector Perform, according to Reuters. The adjustments came as the shares climbed 2.7% following quarterly results and a beefed-up full-year forecast.

The numbers behind that move were solid. Revenue for the third quarter of 2026 came in at $20.7 billion, with earnings per share of $7.97. Lockheed also raised its 2026 revenue guidance to a range of $80 billion to $82 billion and now projects full-year EPS of $30.35 to $30.75.

A Ten-Year F-35 Framework — With Strings Attached

The headline development was a decade-long framework agreement unveiled Thursday with the US Department of Defense covering production and sustainment of the F-35. It spans at least 850 aircraft for the US military, alongside spare parts, modification kits and worldwide fleet maintenance, with international orders layered on top. Planned output is set at 156 jets a year, and Lockheed has committed at least $7 billion of its own funds to program measures.

Morgan Stanley's Kristine Liwag, cited by CNBC, sees the arrangement as a meaningful step forward, arguing it gives the supply chain greater planning certainty and trims downside risk for the manufacturer. That reasoning drove the bank to upgrade the stock to Overweight from Equal Weight and hoist its price target to $835 from $690 — a call built on reduced uncertainty rather than the latest quarter alone.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Lockheed Martin?

The fine print matters. The framework is not yet a final procurement contract; its execution depends on congressional approval and appropriated funds, and pricing and delivery terms still have to be negotiated. Investors would be wrong to treat the added visibility as revenue already locked in.

Lot 20 Costs Test the Funding Envelope

Lockheed itself flagged a less comfortable detail. In the third quarter of 2026, costs on the advance procurement contract for F-35 Lot 20 began exceeding the currently authorized and funded contract ceiling. Without additional approvals and funding, the company cautioned that future results, cash flows and its financial position could be hurt — a warning that reaches beyond the income statement into financing and liquidity.

Missiles Pick Up the Slack

Supporting Morgan Stanley's more constructive stance is the missiles business. Sales at Missiles and Fire Control rose 24% year over year in the third quarter of 2026, and the bank expects growth in the mid-teens percentage range over the next five years. Backlog tells a similar story: it reached $292 billion, up 27% from the prior quarter, and includes a multi-year PAC-3 MSE contract worth $52.5 billion.

Lockheed Martin at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Where the Two Camps Diverge

BofA Securities sits on the other side of the ledger. It raised its target to $620 from $600 on Friday but kept a Neutral rating, pointing to persistent margin pressure in Aeronautics and potential cash flow headwinds in 2027. The bank acknowledges stronger F-35 sales and missile growth — it simply stops short of a positive re-rating.

The fault line for investors runs between better production planning and actual financial delivery. Morgan Stanley leans on the diminished uncertainty; BofA wants firmer evidence on margins and cash generation. The long-term framework sharpens Lockheed's growth story, but it does not erase those operational risks.
