Micron Technology shares fell 2.2% on Wednesday, caught in a broad selloff that swept through semiconductor and AI-related names. The retreat reflected mounting investor unease over whether the massive capital being poured into artificial intelligence will generate adequate returns — a concern sharpened by disappointing quarterly results from Amazon and Intel, according to Reuters.

The nervousness extended beyond any single company. AP characterized the tech rout as a reaction to stretched AI valuations, while Bloomberg reported Wednesday that investors are questioning the durability of AI spending commitments. Even exceptionally strong results have failed to reverse the negative momentum in memory stocks.

A Sector Story, Not a Company Verdict

For all the gloom, the pressure on Micron originated in the industry backdrop rather than any fresh corporate disclosure. Worries that elevated interest rates could slow data-center buildouts added another layer of caution. Those are legitimate risks, but they bear primarily on expectations for the pace of AI investment and its economics — not on Micron's own operating performance.

The distinction matters. A weaker trading environment justifies prudence; it does not by itself amount to a downgrade of the business.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Micron Technology?

Two analysts nonetheless reaffirmed their bullish stances this week. Mark Li of Bernstein reiterated his buy recommendation and a $1,300 price target, according to media reports. Separately, D.A. Davidson confirmed its buy rating and a $3,000 target on October 22, after its analyst attended Micron's technology and product webinar the previous day.

Those calls document confidence in the company's direction. They are not new business figures — and a price target no more dispels concerns about AI spending returns than the selloff disproves the optimistic case. Investors are left weighing two signals that point in different directions, and treating either in isolation risks missing the fuller picture.

Roadmap Takes Shape

The October 21 webinar laid out Micron's development plans across DRAM, HBM and NAND. Among the initiatives: wafer bonding for a future DRAM process, vertical HBM memory, and memory designed for local AI inference that would be integrated directly onto processors. For later generations, Micron plans to deploy High-NA EUV.

A Bonus Plan — and a One-Day Walkout

On the corporate side, Micron said on October 22 that a quarterly employee bonus program will apply worldwide starting in fiscal 2027, with profit-linked payouts split evenly between cash and stock. The arrangement ties compensation explicitly to company performance, though it guarantees neither higher profits nor answers the question of future demand.

The same day, a one-day strike took place at Micron's Taoyuan site in Taiwan over a dispute concerning employee bonuses and profit sharing. The impact on production was judged to be minor.

Weighing the Evidence

AI skepticism is a understandable drag on sentiment, but it has yet to translate into a company-specific argument against Micron. Equally, a pair of confirmed price targets and a profit-linked bonus model are not enough to sweep industry risks aside. The stock warrants a sober assessment — neither a presumption of trust nor a verdict rendered on the strength of a single trading session.
