Nokia's Retail Fan Base Swells in Helsinki as Analysts Debate What the Stock Is Really Worth

Nokia drew 13,000 new Finnish retail shareholders in Q3 2026, but shares fell 9.9% in a week despite 35% profit growth and a reiterated outlook.

Nokia has quietly climbed to second place among the most popular stocks with Finnish retail investors, displacing Mandatum, according to a report by Yle. As many as 13,000 new private shareholders joined the register on the Helsinki exchange between July and September 2026 — a surge that Sari Lounasmeri, head of the Finnish shareholder foundation Pörssisäätiö, links chiefly to the company's collaboration with Nvidia. Nokia, she notes, has been sharpening its profile around network connectivity and equipment for AI companies and data centers.

That growing crowd of small investors describes demand for the shares, not their value. A larger following is no substitute for rising profits or for delivering on operational targets, and the two should be judged separately. Nor does fresh buying interest shield the stock from short-term pain: despite the influx of newcomers, the shares shed 9.9% over seven days.

A Rebound After the Rout

The pullback followed third-quarter results published on Thursday, which showed revenue of EUR 5,154 million — up 10% year on year — and comparable operating profit of EUR 605 million, a 35% jump. Rosenblatt Securities called the ensuing selloff overdone but still trimmed its price target on Friday, with analyst Mike Genovese cutting it to $14 from $15 while keeping his buy rating. The reduction, he explained, reflected lower valuation multiples across peer companies rather than any downgrade of Nokia itself. Rosenblatt attributed the earlier plunge to a broad selloff in AI-infrastructure names. Shares recovered 2.8% on Friday as analysts pushed back against the scale of the decline.

Guidance for the full year was left untouched: Nokia reiterated comparable operating profit of EUR 2.1 billion to EUR 2.6 billion. What did move was the company's cash conversion assumption, cut on Thursday to a range of 35% to 55%, which Nokia blamed on working-capital investments — including an additional planned outlay of EUR 400 million.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nokia?

Restructuring Bill Rises

On the cost side, the picture is less flattering. Bloomberg reports that Nokia now expects restructuring charges of EUR 1.1 billion for 2026, up from EUR 800 million previously — a counterweight to the brighter earnings picture. At the same time, full integration of Infinera by year-end is meant to unlock EUR 200 million in cost synergies. Whether Nokia closes that integration on schedule and captures the savings matters as much to investors as any new order flow.

Earnings estimates, at least, are heading in the right direction. Northland Securities raised its forecast for the current fiscal year on Friday to $0.42 per share from $0.40 — an improved profit projection, not a new buy recommendation, and still an expectation rather than a promise from the company.

Dividends and the Next Scorecard

The responsible Nokia body also approved a dividend of EUR 0.03 per share on Thursday, payable on 5 November 2026 to holders of record on 27 October 2026. Fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 results are scheduled for 28 January 2027.

Nokia at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Behind the swelling shareholder base lies genuine appeal — but also hope pinned on future AI applications. The decisive question for investors is the balance between improving earnings prospects and the price of the overhaul. A bigger register of private owners is a vote of confidence; it is not proof that the stock is cheap.
