Nvidia's Deployment Calendar Speeds Up While the Bill Comes Due

Nvidia unveiled modular AI factory designs and telecom wins, but its stock fell 4.4% as investors questioned who funds the AI infrastructure build-out.

Nvidia spent the week demonstrating that its technology can be put to work faster and in more places. Investors, meanwhile, spent Thursday asking who pays for the infrastructure that makes any of it possible. The stock fell 4.4% as the sell-off in AI-linked technology names sharpened, according to Reuters, which pointed to a mix of pressures: Meta's results and its spending plans, the announcement of fresh share issuance, and rising interest rates.

That distinction — between what Nvidia can build and what the market will fund — ran through every development of the past several days. Two questions now sit at the center of the investment case: how quickly AI infrastructure can be erected, and how it can be financed.

A modular shortcut for the construction bottleneck

On Wednesday, Nvidia unveiled DSX POD, a modular reference design for complete Vera Rubin AI factories. Partners assemble and validate the systems before shipping, leaving less installation work to be done once they reach a prepared site. The company says installation time could drop from six months to just 14 days, with partner deliveries worldwide slated to begin in early 2027.

The pitch targets a specific pinch point: the gap between a ready site and a running facility. Nvidia is describing a potential reduction in installation time, not a saving already achieved at scale, and the announced shipments remain in the future.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nvidia?

A live call, pilots and a processor switch

Commercial deployment news arrived midweek as well. T-Mobile, working with Nvidia and Nokia, completed what the companies describe as the world's first AI-RAN call on a commercial network — a finished use case rather than a product announcement. BT, Deutsche Telekom and Elisa disclosed tests or pilot projects of their own, running Nokia software on Nvidia's Aerial RAN Computer. Those efforts represent the next stage of trialing, not broad commercial operation.

Beyond telecoms, Reuters reported Monday that AI cloud startup Modal intends to run on Nvidia's Vera processor, having previously relied on chips from Intel and AMD. The significance lies less in added compute capacity than in the choice of silicon supplier for a specific workload. The same day, Nvidia and the German government agreed to cooperate on models for "physical AI" and industrial AI applications, with access extended to small and medium-sized enterprises and research institutions.

Two analysts, one target, no quick catalyst

Goldman Sachs reaffirmed its buy rating and $300 price target on Wednesday following Jensen Huang's GTC address in Berlin, saying the event supported its view that the AI build-out remains on plan. The firm did not expect a major immediate share-price reaction. Needham restated its own buy rating and the same target on Thursday after Huang's appearance.

The analysts' stance and the market's mood are not in conflict so much as focused on different things. DSX POD addresses the speed of execution. The open economic question is whether willingness to invest keeps pace with that technical progress.

Why the operational wins don't settle the argument

Each announcement carries a different degree of completion: a finished mobile call sits alongside pilots, a planned processor deployment and a cooperation agreement. Concrete applications prove progress in usage, but they do not by themselves answer the financing-cost question raised on Thursday. The gap between Nvidia's operational momentum and investors' more cautious posture reflects two separate preconditions for further growth — and only one of them was addressed this week.
