OHB has spent the past fortnight stacking up partnership announcements and study contracts, and on Thursday Jefferies signalled it expects the run of good news to keep feeding through to the numbers. The broker reiterated its "Buy" rating on the Bremen-based space and technology group and left its price target at 280 euros, with analyst Chloe Lemarie looking for the positive trends seen in the first half to carry over — particularly on the margin side — ahead of the third-quarter report.

The stock itself has been less obliging. Shares in OHB closed Wednesday at €222.00, a drop of 9.9%, with media reports pointing to pressure across European aerospace and defence names rather than anything specific to the company. No company-related trigger for the fall was identified; coverage of the move floated profit-taking after the strong run-up beforehand as one possible reading.

Astroscale memorandum covers three fields

The most recent corporate development came on Wednesday, when OHB and Astroscale Holdings signed a memorandum of understanding to explore working together on space safety, space situational awareness and in-orbit services. The agreement is explicitly a scoping exercise — possible areas of cooperation in those three fields, with no concrete projects or orders attached at this stage.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?

Earlier in the week, on Monday, OHB struck a separate deal with MediaMobil Communication GmbH. Under a capital increase, OHB is taking a 25% stake in the company, a move that forms part of a strategic partnership between the two and is intended to deepen collaboration in satellite communications while strengthening OHB's own capabilities in that segment.

Mainz test stand handed over

On the hardware side, OHB Digital Connect reported on 22 October that the modular test stand for rocket engine and stage testing under the Eu-BEST project had been built in Mainz and formally signed off. The European Union backed the venture with €4.96 million. OHB Digital Connect was responsible for developing and implementing the stand's mechanical structures, while project coordination sat with France's Eiffage Énergie Systèmes – Clemessy.

There is also fresh work from the European Space Agency. Roughly two weeks ago the ESA awarded OHB subsidiary OHB System a contract for feasibility and preliminary design studies for the potential lunar infrastructure known as OASIS — a study mandate only, not an order to build the infrastructure itself.

Nine-month figures due 12 November

Investors get their next hard data point on 12 November, when OHB is scheduled to publish its quarterly financial report for the third quarter — the nine-month figures the company has flagged as its next reporting date. Until then, the picture is one of a group assembling a broader space-services footprint through minority stakes and study wins, against a share price that has just given back a chunk of its recent gains for reasons that appear to sit with the sector rather than the company.
