OHB System AG, the satellite-building subsidiary of Bremen-based OHB SE, has been tapped by the European Space Agency to develop the next generation of Copernicus Sentinel-3 topography satellites. The contract, announced on Wednesday, carries a volume of more than EUR 554 million and includes an option for a second spacecraft — an option, not a confirmed order, with no additional satellite reported as firmly commissioned.

The award lands against a softer tape for the sector. OHB shares were among the European space and defence names that gave ground on Friday, shedding 3.4% as the broader group — Leonardo, Northrop Grumman and Thales among them — also came under pressure. Media reports had already flagged the stock as one of the space-and-arms names trading lower on Thursday.

Hera Delivers Its First Look at Didymos

Separately, OHB System reported progress on another ESA programme. The Hera probe, developed by the company, transmitted its first image of the Didymos asteroid system back to Earth. Tests of the spacecraft and its two CubeSats also came off successfully, according to the company. ESA has set 25 November as the date for releasing detailed imagery of both asteroids.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?

The operational news flow extends beyond hardware. Roughly two weeks ago, OHB SE and Astroscale Holdings Inc. signed a memorandum of understanding, per Astroscale, to explore cooperation on protecting critical space infrastructure and on sustainable use of orbit. The arrangement covers the examination of a possible partnership rather than any agreed implementation.

Fuchs Takes EY Innovation Honours

On the corporate side, chief executive Marco Fuchs was named EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2026 in the Innovation category on Friday. OHB said Fuchs will represent Germany at the international awards ceremony in 2027.

Investors now have a fixed date to work toward: OHB's calendar lists publication of its Q3 2026 quarterly report for 12 November at 08:00. That release will follow a run of operating announcements — the Sentinel-3 mandate, the Astroscale exploration and the Hera milestones — with the market due to weigh the company's business performance against them.
