The second-quarter numbers were supposed to be a modest step forward. Instead, Omeros delivered a leap. The biopharma group's latest financial report, released Thursday, showed net sales of $28.5 million — more than double the $12.7 million that analysts had penciled in — sending shares sharply higher in a move that underscores just how quickly the commercial trajectory of Yartemlea has accelerated since its debut.

Gross revenue for the drug hit $32.2 million in the period, a 190% jump from the $11.1 million recorded in the first quarter. Roughly three-quarters of that volume came from adult patient treatments. The company also noted that 73 specialized treatment centers had placed orders by the end of June, a 143% increase from the tally at the end of March.

The sales momentum flipped the income statement into positive territory. Omeros reported net income of $13.2 million, or $0.15 per share, against a net loss of $25.4 million in the same period a year earlier. Adjusted operating results swung to a slim profit of $0.1 million, compared with an operating loss of $17.4 million in the opening quarter of the year. On an adjusted basis, earnings came in at $0.02 per share, comfortably ahead of the consensus forecast, which had called for a loss of $0.27 per share. The unadjusted net figure of $0.18 per share, however, included $11.5 million in non-cash gains.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Omeros?

Management used the stronger liquidity position to tidy up the balance sheet. The company repurchased convertible notes due in 2029 with a face value of $30.5 million, cutting the outstanding principal on that debt by roughly 43% to $40.3 million. A share buyback program also got underway, with 489,000 shares acquired for $5.7 million during the quarter. Cash stood at $132 million as of June 30, while operating cash flow turned positive at $4.1 million.

Reimbursement developments in the US have added further tailwinds. A dedicated J-code for Yartemlea took effect on July 1, and from October 1 the drug will qualify for a New Technology Add-on Payment of up to $287,000 per treatment episode — a step that lowers the financial barrier for US hospitals considering the therapy.

Not everything is running smoothly. The European Medicines Agency's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) issued a negative opinion on the marketing application for narsoplimab in transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy (TA-TMA), prompting Omeros to request a re-examination of the case. The company is also planning to channel Yartemlea's commercial momentum into clinical development, with studies earmarked for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and TA-TMA.

The market's response was emphatic. The stock climbed 25% to €14.70 in Thursday's session, leaving it roughly 57% above its 50-day average. H.C. Wainwright reaffirmed its buy rating with a $33 price target, though Zacks downgraded the shares to "Hold" on Wednesday. Insider sales over the past three months totaled approximately $87,075. Management has guided for interest expenses of around $6.5 million in the third quarter.
