OMV's Refining Bet Meets a Chemical Reality Check
Published on 11/08/2026 at 18:21 | Editorial boerse-global.deVienna — OMV has raised its organic investment guidance to roughly EUR 3.5 billion for 2026, a lift announced on 29 October that sits alongside upward revisions to its Brent crude and European refining margin assumptions. The Austrian oil and gas group now expects Brent to average above USD 95/bbl next year and the European refining indicator margin to come in at around USD 25/bbl. Both figures are full-year expectations, not realized results.
The upgraded outlook lands against a third quarter that was solid at the headline but uneven underneath. Clean CCS operating profit before special items reached EUR 2.12 billion, up 68% year on year, with clean CCS earnings per share of EUR 3.54. Reuters reported the operating result was broadly in line with market expectations, though the chemicals division disappointed — its operating result fell to EUR 63 million.
Special taxes and a Black Sea contribution
Chief executive Emma Delaney put the drag from special taxes in Austria and Romania at EUR 200 million, according to APA. The quarter's gains were powered by elevated oil and gas prices and fatter refining margins, the agency reported.

Further out, Delaney told Reuters that the Neptun Deep gas project in the Black Sea is expected to add roughly half a billion euros a year to adjusted CCS operating profit once plateau production is reached. First gas is targeted for the first half of 2027.
Two houses, two directions
Analyst action has pulled in opposite directions. Morgan Stanley downgraded OMV to "Underweight" from "Equal-weight" on Friday while lifting its price target to EUR 67.00 from EUR 65.50, according to media reports. BNP Paribas, by contrast, raised its target to EUR 70 from EUR 64 on Wednesday and kept its "Neutral" rating. The French bank's higher target did not come with an improved recommendation.
Shares slipped 0.7% on Friday to close at EUR 71.60, leaving the stock above Morgan Stanley's freshly set target. The downgrade coincided with the decline but has not been established as its sole cause.
OMV's next confirmed reporting date is 4 February 2027, when fourth-quarter 2026 figures are due. All earnings numbers cited so far relate to the third quarter; the refining margin, Brent price and organic investment figures refer to the 2026 outlook.
