Partners Group's leadership is putting its own money behind the stock while the firm reshapes its business mix. Board and management members bought roughly CHF 21 million of shares in the open market between October 6 and 8, according to media reports. Combined with earlier purchases, insider buying since the start of September has reached almost CHF 39 million.

The purchases come against a bruising stretch for the Swiss asset manager. The stock has shed 38% since the start of the year and closed Friday at EUR 655.20, just 5.2% above its 52-week low of EUR 623.00. It also sits well below its 200-day moving average of EUR 861.00.

A Credit Engine Built for a Different Market

Partners Group is leaning harder into private credit and evergreen vehicles as institutional and private investors change what they want from the asset class. On October 9 the firm launched a global multi-sector private credit income strategy, structured as an open-ended evergreen fund and aimed at both institutions and the private wealth segment. The program targets returns in the high single digits to low double digits, generated mostly through running income. The established private equity evergreen strategy was also adjusted to give clients more flexibility.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Partners Group?

The pivot matters because the traditional buyout business is under pressure. Bloomberg reported that Partners Group cut dozens of positions in its global private equity unit or moved them elsewhere, with some staff shifting to infrastructure and royalties and others leaving the company. People familiar with the matter cited mounting performance pressure and investor reactions. The firm said team sizes remain in line with their long-term average and pointed to the expansion of operational leadership capacity over the past year.

Shareholders Vote to Wind Down a Listed Trust

Portfolio decisions are also playing out at the fund level. At the closed-end Partners Group Private Equity Limited, shareholders voted 99.9% in favor of an orderly realization of the entire investment portfolio, triggering a managed wind-down of the trust. The move affects the listed fund structure, not Partners Group Holding AG itself, though it shows how the firm is responding to investor preferences while shifting its focus toward newer, return-oriented credit strategies.

Jefferies Cuts Its Target and Its Earnings Forecasts

Sell-side sentiment remains cautious on how quickly the firm can recover. On September 29, Jefferies lowered its price target on Partners Group to CHF 605 from CHF 710 and kept a "Hold" rating. The analysts also cut their earnings-per-share estimates for 2026 and 2027 by 10% and 11% respectively, citing a delayed recovery in assets under management caused by continuing problems in the evergreen fund range. A sustained upturn is not expected before 2028, they said.

The stock's slide has several causes: redemption requests at evergreen funds, an attack by short sellers, and little supportive effect so far from the announced change at the top of the company. Whether the recent seven-figure insider purchases can steady sentiment over the coming months is the question now hanging over the shares.
