Reckitt Benckiser has cut its full-year comparable sales growth guidance, blaming temporary production constraints on Lysol in North America and a softer Chinese supplements market. The consumer goods group, however, left its profitability forecast untouched — a split that gives investors two separate tests to watch.

For 2026, Core Reckitt — which excludes both Essential Home and Mead Johnson Nutrition — now expects comparable sales growth of 3.5% to 4.5%, down from the 4% to 5% range previously targeted. The revision applies to the core brands' growth expectation, and the company is responding to supply restrictions and a difficult consumer environment.

The market's reaction was sharply negative. The stock fell 4.8% on the day, with one reading putting the daily move at -6.4%. Either way, attention has shifted to how quickly Reckitt can restore its delivery capability.

Prices Carry the Load as Volumes Stall

Third-quarter comparable sales for Core Reckitt rose 3.3%, short of the 3.6% analysts had penciled in, according to Reuters. Revenue for the core business reached GBP 2.69 billion.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Reckitt Benckiser?

The makeup of that growth exposes a second soft spot. Price and product mix contributed 3.2%, while volume edged up just 0.1%. Price increases therefore accounted for nearly all of the advance, with sales volumes adding barely any momentum — which makes the expected normalization of supply capability especially important for the months ahead.

Reuters attributes the Lysol problem to the supply side: temporary production bottlenecks limited what the company could ship despite strong demand for the brand. The Financial Times also flags weaker demand for supplements in China as a drag on the outlook. The Wall Street Journal explicitly names the Lysol production constraints as the reason for the guidance cut.

A Divided Map: North America Slips, Emerging Markets Shine

Regional performance was uneven. Emerging markets grew 8.0% on a comparable basis, Europe added 0.8%, and North America declined 1.3%. Europe thus returned to growth, while emerging markets remained the strongest region — though not strong enough to offset the North American drag and preserve the old annual forecast.

Emerging markets also fell short of the 9.1% analysts had expected, according to Reuters. Excluding the Russian hygiene business, their growth stood at 9.8%. Reckitt still expects to complete the sale of that business during 2026.

Margin Guidance Holds — For Now

The correction concerns the growth outlook, not expected profitability. Reckitt is keeping its forecast for the adjusted operating margin of Core Reckitt including Mead Johnson Nutrition unchanged at 24.9% to 25.6% for 2026. The weaker sales trajectory has so far not prompted any reduction of that target.

Reckitt Benckiser at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Management anticipates a markedly stronger second half, with the fourth quarter of 2026 expected to bring a recovery at Lysol and in the North American business. Headwinds from the timing of retailer orders are also projected to reverse.

That anticipated rebound is the central proving ground for the new guidance. Should the normalization materialize, the supply disruption could prove temporary. For investors, the trimmed sales range is only half the story: whether Reckitt delivers the promised improvement while hitting its unchanged margin goal matters just as much. The intact margin forecast limits the scope of today's correction, but it does not remove the operational problem behind the lowered sales outlook.
