Renk Group Retreats to EUR 36.95 as Profit-Taking Overrides a EUR 160 Million Order Backlog
Published on 10/20/2026 at 15:50 | Editorial boerse-global.deRenk Group shares slid 3.1% to EUR 36.95 on Tuesday, extending a soft start to the week for European equities as a sector-wide round of profit-taking hit defence names that had been on a tear.
The pullback came without any company-specific news. Instead, traders booked gains after the sector had climbed noticeably over the previous ten trading days, a trend dpa-AFX flagged at the start of the week. Reuters attributed the broader risk-off mood to persistently high oil prices, which weighed on European semiconductor stocks and on defence names alike. Renk was not alone in the red: peers including Rheinmetall and Hensoldt also came under selling pressure.
The move caps a volatile stretch for the Augsburg-based gearbox manufacturer. A Morgan Stanley industry study published on Friday had lifted the entire European defence sector, with media reports pointing to expectations of further increases in European defence spending and the historically strong seasonal pattern often seen in defence stocks. Renk closed at EUR 38.12 in the session following the note, a gain of 12% over seven days. That rally was a broad sector reaction rather than a company-specific upgrade, but it was enough to snap the stock out of its prior weak phase and trigger follow-on buying.
A EUR 160 Million Order Base Stretching to 2032
Underneath the daily noise, Renk's order book has been steadily filling. Roughly a week ago the company agreed a significant contract extension with KNDS Deutschland worth around EUR 130 million, covering HSWL 354 transmissions, transmission control units and gear selector switches for the Leopard 2 main battle tank and its vehicle family. Deliveries under that arrangement are scheduled to begin in 2029 and wrap up by 2032.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?
A second international order arrived about two weeks ago, when Patria placed a follow-up contract for transmissions for the TRACKX vehicle family. That deal carries a volume of EUR 30 million, with deliveries planned from 2027.
The two awards together illustrate the long lead times that define the defence sector: large contracts provide visibility across many years but only feed through to revenue and earnings with a considerable lag. For Renk, the practical task is to keep production capacity and delivery capability on track while holding margins steady in the current business.
Two Dates on the Calendar
Investors now have a pair of autumn appointments to work with. On Wednesday, 21 October, the group hosts a pre-close call in Augsburg covering the first nine months of the year. The official nine-month report is due on 5 November, when Renk will publish its quarterly statement for the first nine months of 2026 and discuss business development on a conference call.
That briefing should shed light on how the operating margin has developed against the backdrop of expanding defence demand, and on how quickly the existing backlog can actually be worked through. Given the broad appetite for defence equipment, delivery capability and profitability in the running business are likely to draw the closest scrutiny.
For the year to date, the picture remains difficult. The stock is down 32% since the start of January, a figure that reflects the sustained swings in the share price rather than any deterioration in the order pipeline.
