Renk Keeps Its Guidance Intact as Rheinmetall's Warning Exposes the Sector's Timing Trap
Published on 11/06/2026 at 05:50 | Editorial boerse-global.deRenk Group's quarterly figures landed slightly ahead of market expectations, yet the shares still gave up ground — a reminder that in defence stocks right now, sentiment is being set by the sector rather than by individual companies. The stock fell 5.2% in the wake of Rheinmetall's profit warning, with the read-across dragging other defence names lower, according to dpa-AFX.
JPMorgan's David Perry left his "Overweight" rating and EUR 50 price target unchanged following the results, judging the numbers to have come in a touch better than the market had anticipated. DZ Bank likewise reaffirmed its buy recommendation and kept its fair value at EUR 56, calling the third quarter operationally convincing.
Strong orders, slower revenue
The demand picture remains striking. Third-quarter order intake jumped almost 45% to EUR 469 million, and the order backlog stood at EUR 7.6 billion at the end of September. Revenue for the quarter rose 12.1% to EUR 345 million, while adjusted EBIT climbed 17% to EUR 61 million.
Zooming out to the nine-month view, order intake reached EUR 1,664.4 million, a gain of 33.6%. Revenue over the same period came to EUR 982.0 million, up 5.8%, and adjusted EBIT totalled EUR 158.8 million, an increase of 12.7%. The pattern is clear: earnings are growing faster than sales, but orders are growing faster still.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?
That gap is where the investment case gets interesting — and where the risk sits.
Sagel flags the Boxer bottleneck
CEO Alexander Sagel used the nine-month presentation to warn that converting the backlog into revenue could face delays if major defence contractors push back their programme schedules. He pointed to hold-ups in the German Boxer programme, for which Renk supplies gearboxes, as one example, Reuters reported.
The distinction matters. Renk has not issued a warning of its own. Rheinmetall, by contrast, cut its 2026 revenue and margin guidance, citing delays in the Boxer Arminius programme and in ammunition deliveries. The overlap on Boxer makes the sector signal relevant to Renk without making it equivalent to a company-specific downgrade.
For the 2026 financial year, Renk confirmed its guidance for the continuing operations: revenue of around EUR 1.4 billion and adjusted EBIT of EUR 240 million to EUR 255 million. The outlook stands even as the execution question hangs over it.
What to watch on 8 December
The next scheduled event is a strategy update from the CEO on 8 December 2026 in London, planned as a hybrid event, at which Sagel will present the group's strategic direction. It is not a promised set of new financial targets. It is, however, a concrete occasion to test whether the company can explain how it intends to marry growth with operational delivery — and whether a full order book can be turned into revenue on schedule.
