Renk Offloads Bearings Unit to Miba, but Keeps Its Civil Marine Business

Renk has signed a binding agreement to sell its plain bearings division to Austria's Miba AG, a transaction the buyer is calling the largest acquisition in its corporate history. The deal, struck through subsidiary RENK GmbH, marks another step in the group's shift toward defence — yet it stops well short of a full exit from civilian work.

That distinction matters. Renk stressed that the disposal does not touch the civil operations of its Marine & Industry division. Investors reading the move as a wholesale retreat from industrial business would be overstating it. The bearings unit is what changes hands; the rest of the civil portfolio stays inside the group.

Signature Is Not Completion

The agreement is binding, but the sale has not closed. Completion hinges on customary regulatory approvals, so the signing and the actual transfer of the business are two separate events. Until those clearances arrive, the portfolio remains as it is.

For Miba, the purchase carries substantial strategic weight. For Renk, the same transaction advances a reshaping of the group's perimeter that, according to a dpa-AFX report, pushes the company further toward armaments. It is more than a one-off divestment: it alters the scope of the activities against which investors will measure future performance and delivery on guidance.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

A New Reporting Line

Renk intends to classify the bearings business as a discontinued operation under IFRS 5 from the fourth quarter of 2026. The updated full-year forecast therefore describes only the continuing operations — Vehicle Mobility Solutions and Marine & Industry — rather than the group as previously constituted.

That reclassification is the key to reading the numbers correctly. The revised guidance reflects a narrower business, not a weaker one, and any comparison with earlier forecasts has to account for the changed scope. The adjustment on its own is no evidence of deteriorating operating performance in the activities that remain.

On that continuing basis, Renk projects revenue of around EUR 1.4 billion for the current year, with adjusted EBIT of EUR 240 million to EUR 255 million.

JPMorgan Trims Its Target

The strategic picture is only half the story. JPMorgan's assessment, published a day earlier and reported by dpa-AFX, points to slower ramp-ups in German armoured vehicle programmes and a gloomier outlook for Renk's industrial business. Analyst David Perry cut his price target to EUR 50 from EUR 62 while keeping an Overweight rating on the stock.

Renk Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

His view is not uniformly downbeat. Following a conference call ahead of the upcoming quarterly report, Perry now expects a higher adjusted operating result than before. Cautious expectations for the business sit alongside a more favourable earnings forecast — a split verdict that leaves investors with two separate yardsticks: execution of the restructuring, and the operating trajectory of what remains.

What November 5 Will Show

The next hard data point comes on November 5, 2026, when Renk publishes its nine-month statement and holds a conference call. Attention will fall on the divisions that will define the group after the bearings sale, and on the civil activities that explicitly stay in the fold. Until then, what is on the table is a strategic agreement and its accounting treatment — not a completed portfolio overhaul.
