Renk's Bearings Sale Resets the Base Case, but the Buy Calls Survive the Trim

A regulatory filing, a divestment and two analyst notes landed on Renk this week — and only one of them actually tells investors anything about the company's earning power. UBS disclosed on Friday that its aggregate holding in the defence and industrial gearbox maker, instruments included, had slipped from 5.06% to 4.71%. The threshold was crossed on Wednesday. That is a change in voting-rights position, not proof that the bank offloaded shares on the same scale, and it should not be read as a fresh verdict on Renk's prospects.

The stock fell 2.3% on Friday, but no causal link between the disclosure and that move has been established. Nor should the day's trading be pinned automatically on the week's corporate news. What the filing does is sit alongside the operating story as a third, separate input.

Two Buy Ratings, Two Different Price Tags

The more substantive signal came from the research desks, and both kept their positive stance. Münchmeyer Petersen Capital Markets reiterated its buy recommendation with a €63 target on Friday, expecting order intake 9% above consensus while forecasting adjusted EBIT 6% below it. That gap is the crux for investors: healthy expected orders do not guarantee an equally strong near-term profit line. The view is neither a blanket endorsement nor a warning of deterioration.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

DZ Bank, meanwhile, cut its fair value to €56 from €64 while leaving its rating at "Buy". It framed the disposal of the plain bearings business as execution of the strategy Renk had already flagged, and aligned its estimates with the announced acquisitions and divestments. A lower valuation and an unchanged buy call are distinct messages — a target cut is not automatically a sell signal. The two houses now sit at different marks (€63 and €56) while agreeing on direction.

What the Miba Deal Actually Changes

The trigger for the reassessment was Thursday's news that Renk, through its wholly owned subsidiary RENK GmbH, had signed a binding agreement to sell its plain bearings operations to Miba. The purchase price was not disclosed, and the transaction still requires antitrust clearance — it is not a completed sale.

For the continuing operations, Renk guided to roughly €1.4bn in revenue for 2026 and adjusted EBIT of €240–255m. That perimeter matters: the forecast covers only the businesses that remain after the Miba exit. Traders read the adjustment as a modest operational trimming of profit expectations, according to dpa-AFX, which is why the relationship between order intake and earnings — rather than the UBS position — is the number to watch.

The Date That Matters

The next hard data point is the release of Q3 2026 results on 5 November. Until then, the buy ratings are expectations, not commitments, and they do not substitute for scrutiny of how the adjusted plan plays out in the figures. The market is digesting a changed corporate blueprint; the analysts are drawing their own valuation lines from it. The UBS filing, for its part, answers none of the operating questions.
