The Augsburg-based drive specialist is no longer content to be a one-trick pony. Renk Group's half-year numbers, released earlier this week, delivered the headline-grabbing record — an order intake of €612.8 million in the second quarter alone, the strongest quarterly figure in the company's history — but tucked inside the report was a quieter strategic development that could reshape the investment case.

Renk is now supplying mechanical components for gas turbine generator systems destined for data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure. The move carves out a growth lane beyond the defense segment that has dominated the narrative since the company's stock market debut, tapping into the global scramble for computing capacity that shows no signs of cooling.

The Numbers Behind the Noise

The order book swelled to €7.4 billion, another all-time high, while first-half intake reached roughly €1.2 billion against €921.2 million in the prior-year period. That works out to a book-to-bill ratio of 1.9 — Renk booked nearly twice as many orders as it processed over the same stretch. Defense remained the primary engine: the Vehicle Mobility Solutions segment alone pulled in €970.4 million in new business.

Revenue for the first six months landed at €637.2 million, with adjusted EBIT of €98.0 million translating into a margin of 15.4 percent, up from 14.4 percent a year earlier. Management held firm on its full-year guidance, reiterating expectations for revenue above €1.5 billion and adjusted EBIT between €255 million and €285 million for 2026. For the third quarter, the board penciled in order intake of €300 million to €400 million.

There were also signs of financial housekeeping. A new syndicated, unsecured facility is set to trim annual financing costs by around €7 million, while free cash flow improved to roughly €42 million. The acquisition of David Brown Defense, flagged in the half-year report, is intended to bolster Renk's position in marine propulsion.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

Analysts Line Up Behind the Story

The sell-side response has been notably upbeat, with a cluster of fresh or reaffirmed recommendations landing in the same week as the results. Barclays initiated coverage with an "Overweight" rating and a €60 price target. Warburg Research confirmed its "Buy" call and lifted its target to €63. JPMorgan stands as the most bullish house in the field, keeping its "Overweight" stance with a €75 target. The DZ Bank reiterated its buy recommendation with a fair value of €64, while Jefferies sees the shares fairly valued at €60 on a "Buy" rating. Deutsche Bank, for its part, reaffirmed its purchase recommendation on August 7 with a €73 target.

The consensus rests on the same foundation: a record backlog that provides multi-year revenue visibility and a management team signaling that roughly 99 percent of its land-based business will remain manned through 2030 — a deliberate message to investors that automation will not upend the core franchise anytime soon.

A Share Price Still Climbing

The market's initial reaction was positive, with the stock adding 0.9 percent on Wednesday to close at €50.22. Over the past 30 days, the shares have advanced around 17 percent, having recovered decisively from the 12-month low of €40.41. The more recent surge — roughly 19 percent within a month according to one measure — underscores how investors are beginning to price in the operational momentum.

Yet the recovery remains incomplete. The stock is still down 5.4 percent for the year to date, and the gap to the October peak of €90.20 stands at roughly 43 percent. The target-price range of €60 to €75 suggests analysts see substantial headroom, but the annualized volatility of 37 percent over the past month serves as a reminder that the path upward may not be a straight line.

On the shareholder register, BlackRock crossed the disclosure threshold on July 29 and now holds 4.07 percent of voting rights — a data point that adds a layer of institutional validation to the story.

What emerges from the half-year report is a company running on two tracks: the defense backlog that keeps compounding, and a nascent energy-infrastructure business that could diversify the revenue mix just as the AI buildout accelerates. Whether the share price fully catches up to the order book remains an open question — but the analysts have made their call.
