Renk's Forecast Cut Runs Deeper Than the Bearings Sale

Renk lowered its 2026 guidance for continuing operations after agreeing to sell its slide bearing unit to Miba; analysts cut targets but kept Buy ratings.

Renk's slide of 2.3% is easy to pin on the headlines, harder to pin on any single cause. The stock fell as investors digested a revised full-year outlook and a round of lower price targets, while the MDAX itself weakened through the afternoon. That combination means the move says little on its own about how the market is pricing any one piece of company news.

What matters more is the gap between the business Renk will keep and what it now expects that business to earn. The agreed sale of the plain bearings unit resets the basis for guidance — and, by the read of traders cited by dpa-AFX, the revision goes beyond that mechanical effect.

A narrower company, a lower bar

Under the deal struck through subsidiary RENK GmbH, Renk is selling its slide bearing operations to Miba AG. The purchase price sits in the low-to-mid three-digit million euro range, and the transaction still needs regulatory clearance, so it is not yet closed.

The updated guidance for fiscal 2026 applies explicitly to continuing operations. That distinction carries weight: the outlook no longer describes the same scope of business as before the disposal. Renk now points to roughly EUR 1.4 billion in revenue and adjusted EBIT of EUR 240 million to EUR 255 million.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

Compare that with what the company had previously flagged — more than EUR 1.5 billion in sales and adjusted EBIT at the upper end of a EUR 255 million to EUR 285 million range — and the step down is visible even after accounting for the unit being sold. Reuters reported on Thursday that the revised forecast for continuing operations also fell short of analyst expectations.

Two readings therefore sit side by side. Focusing the portfolio can be judged a positive; softer expectations for what remains can weigh on valuation. The share price alone does not settle which view is winning.

Lower targets, same buy calls

The analyst responses make the same point. DZ Bank cut its fair value to EUR 56 from EUR 64 yesterday while keeping its "Buy" rating. A reduced valuation, in other words, did not come with a negative recommendation — which is why the reasoning behind each target change matters as much as the number.

Barclays trimmed its price target to EUR 57 from EUR 60 on Thursday and reaffirmed "Overweight." Analyst Afonso Osorio, according to dpa-AFX, took a favourable view of the portfolio focus and treated slightly lower estimates as negligible.

JPMorgan had moved a day earlier, on Wednesday, lowering its target to EUR 50 from EUR 62 while sticking with "Overweight." The bank pointed to a slower ramp-up of German armoured vehicle programmes and gloomier prospects for Renk's industrial businesses. That rationale shifts the focus squarely onto operating performance: the softer profit estimates are not merely a question of which activities stay inside the group.

Renk Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Across all three houses, then, lower target prices came attached to continued positive ratings rather than a uniform verdict to sell.

The next checkpoint

Renk publishes its nine-month report for 2026 on 5 November and will hold a conference call the same day. That is the next scheduled occasion to measure the business against the revised annual outlook.

For investors, the priority is how the continuing operations actually perform. The strategic reshuffle on its own does not answer how Renk intends to meet the lowered bar — and that question, more than the week's price action, is where the post-results debate now centres.
