Renk's Lowered Guidance Stirs Doubts That the Miba Sale Cannot Fully Absorb

Renk's decision to offload its plain bearings unit to Miba has given the defence contractor a cleaner strategic profile. What it has not delivered is reassurance on earnings. That distinction sits at the heart of the market's wary reception, with the stock shedding 2.3% on Friday as investors weighed a trimmed outlook against a reshaped portfolio.

The sale, agreed on Thursday, remains subject to customary regulatory clearances and is therefore not yet closed. Renk intends to report the plain bearings business as discontinued operations from the fourth quarter of 2026. Until then, the transaction redraws the perimeter of the group without yet settling the question that matters most to shareholders: how much profit the remaining business can generate.

A Lower Bar Than the Old One

For its continuing operations, Renk is now guiding toward roughly EUR 1.4 billion in revenue for fiscal 2026 and adjusted EBIT of EUR 240 million to EUR 255 million. The prior target had been more than EUR 1.5 billion in sales, with adjusted EBIT at the upper end of a EUR 255 million to EUR 285 million range.

Traders, as reported by dpa-AFX, read the new figures as a modest operational downgrade rather than a purely arithmetic consequence of the divestment. Reuters likewise noted on Thursday that the revised guidance falls short of analyst expectations even for the continuing activities. The two effects therefore need to be kept apart: a smaller business base shifts the comparison, but it does not by itself account for the shortfall.

Target Cuts, Ratings Intact

Sell-side reactions have followed a consistent pattern — lower price targets, unchanged positive ratings. DZ Bank trimmed its fair value to EUR 56 from EUR 64 while keeping its buy recommendation. Holger Schmidt, the analyst behind the call, aligned his estimates with the announced acquisitions and disposals, so the reduced valuation reflects a changed calculation base rather than a loss of conviction.

JPMorgan cut its target to EUR 50 from EUR 62, maintaining an overweight stance. Its reasoning went beyond portfolio composition, citing a slower-than-expected ramp-up of German armoured vehicle programmes and a gloomier outlook for Renk's industrial operations. Barclays also moved lower, reducing its target to EUR 57 from EUR 60 while leaving its overweight rating in place. The common thread: continued confidence in the franchise, paired with more modest near-term expectations.

What November Will Reveal

The next scheduled checkpoint arrives on 5 November, when Renk publishes its nine-month report for 2026 and hosts a conference call. That release will be the first opportunity to measure actual trading against the revised full-year guidance.

Renk Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

For investors, the strategic reshuffle provides the frame; the operating performance of what remains must fill it. Whether the trimmed targets prove conservative or merely realistic is the question the November numbers will begin to answer.
