Renk's Miba Divestment Rewrites the 2026 Yardstick Ahead of November Update

Renk's revised 2026 guidance covers only continuing operations after the bearings unit sale to Miba; the 5 November update will test the operating trend.

Renk has handed investors two separate puzzles to solve at once. The first is a set of 2026 targets that now apply only to the business that stays behind after the agreed sale of its plain bearings unit to Miba AG. The second is whether the underlying operating trend justifies those numbers. A quarterly statement due on 5 November — covering the first nine months of 2026 and accompanied by a conference call — will be the next scheduled opportunity to weigh one against the other.

The distinction matters because the headline figures look like a downgrade. For the continuing operations, Renk is guiding to revenue of roughly EUR 1.4 billion and adjusted EBIT of EUR 240 million to EUR 255 million. Under the previous setup, the company had pointed to more than EUR 1.5 billion in sales and adjusted EBIT at the top end of a EUR 255 million to EUR 285 million range. Both sets of numbers refer to the same fiscal year, so any meaningful comparison has to account for which parts of the group sit inside each perimeter.

A Smaller Base, Not Necessarily a Weaker Engine

Read the new guidance in isolation and it implies a straightforward cut. Read it alongside the transaction and the picture becomes murkier. The sale, announced on Thursday, remains subject to regulatory approval, and Renk has said it will report the bearings business as discontinued from the fourth quarter onward. No purchase price was disclosed, so there is no quantified proceeds figure to feed into a valuation, and the deal cannot yet be treated as closed.

That leaves room for interpretation. dpa-AFX reported on Thursday that market participants saw a slight operational reduction buried in the revised targets, suggesting the discussion goes beyond a purely arithmetic adjustment to the group's scope. The opposing view is equally defensible: a lower absolute target tied to a smaller business says little on its own about how the remaining operations are performing. Neither reading can be settled until the company reports actual numbers against the new base.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

Analysts Split Their Verdicts

JPMorgan came down on the positive side of the ledger on Friday, according to dpa-AFX. Analyst David H. Perry reworked his valuation model to reflect the transaction. DZ Bank also reaffirmed its "Buy" rating the same day, though it trimmed its fair value to EUR 56 from EUR 64, adjusting estimates for the announced acquisitions and disposals.

The two calls capture the tension running through the stock. A strategic endorsement of the divestment does not resolve questions about near-term earnings power — those are separate yardsticks, and the market has yet to reconcile them.

Reading Friday's Move Correctly

Shares slipped 2.3% on Friday, but that single-day figure should not be loaded with more meaning than it carries. dpa-AFX had reported sector-wide weakness in defence names on Monday, driven by profit-taking. That context belongs to the earlier industry move and does not automatically explain the later session. No clear trigger for Friday's decline can be isolated from the available information.

Renk Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

What follows is a cleaner framework for investors: price action, deal status and delivery against operating targets are three distinct measures, and conflating them invites confusion. The November update speaks most directly to the third. Order intake and earnings should be judged on separate tracks — a stronger order book would not by itself offset weaker operating profitability, just as a softer profit line need not signal deteriorating demand.

Until the quarterly statement lands, the central question is how the continuing business is tracking against a forecast that has been redrawn around a narrower group. That is where the next real signal will come from.
