Renk's Shrinking Earnings Base Masks a Second, Separate Cut
Published on 11/02/2026 at 06:40 | Editorial boerse-global.deRenk has given investors two distinct things to weigh: a narrower company and a softer one. The distinction matters because the German defence supplier's revised 2026 guidance, published on 22 October, reflects both the pending disposal of its plain-bearing business and, according to media reports, a modest operational trim to the activities that stay behind.
That combination means the downgrade cannot be filed away as simple arithmetic from the sale. The outlook for continuing operations landed below analyst expectations, reports said, and the market reaction reflected the segment loss alongside the underlying reduction.
What the disposal actually changes
Under a binding agreement signed with Miba AG, Renk will offload its plain-bearing division through wholly owned subsidiary RENK GmbH. The purchase price sits in the lower-to-middle three-digit million euro range, per company statements, and the deal remains subject to customary regulatory clearances. Signing and completion are therefore two different milestones: the contract is agreed, the separation is not yet done.
For the continuing business, Renk now projects roughly €1.4bn in revenue for 2026 and adjusted EBIT of €240m to €255m. The earlier framework had pointed to more than €1.5bn in sales and adjusted EBIT of €255m to €285m. Because the new guidance explicitly covers only the retained operations, it should be read as an outlook on that smaller base rather than a like-for-like restatement of the old group.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?
The accounting treatment reinforces the point. From the fourth quarter of 2026, Renk will report the division as a discontinued operation under IFRS 5. Future comparisons will hinge on which activities a given metric includes — a detail that will shape how upcoming figures are judged against the revised target.
A confirmed order, and a prospect that is not one
Running alongside the financial reset, Renk has issued two project updates of very different standing. On Thursday it disclosed an order from Saab to Renk Magnet-Motor covering three Stirling power generation systems for a submarine programme belonging to a NATO member state. That is a booked piece of business.
Friday brought news of progress on the HSWL 406 transmission for future heavy tracked vehicles, opening a potential route into Italy's NMBT programme. That initiative is led by Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles and, according to Renk, envisages up to 290 vehicles built on the KF-51 Panther platform. The vehicle count illustrates the scale of the opportunity; it does not translate into secured revenue or earnings. Renk is describing a commercial chance, not a confirmed award.
Investors should keep the two categories apart. Development milestones open doors, while signed orders provide a firmer foundation. Neither, however, sets the near-term earnings yardstick — that role belongs to the guidance for the continuing operations.

November 5 as the next test
Renk has scheduled its quarterly statement for the first nine months of 2026 on 5 November, alongside a results presentation and a conference call. The date offers the next concrete occasion to set actual trading against the adjusted full-year outlook.
The question facing shareholders is not simply how much smaller the sale makes Renk. More important is how the retained activities are performing. The agreed purchase price, whatever its final size, says nothing about that.
