Rolls-Royce Shareholders Get Buyback Progress as UltraFan Grant Talk Stays Unconfirmed
Published on 10/25/2026 at 15:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deRolls-Royce confirmed on Wednesday that it repurchased 7,243,797 of its own ordinary shares, the latest tranche under a £2.3 billion buyback programme. UBS executed the purchases on the company's behalf between 13 and 19 October, and the shares are earmarked for cancellation. Since the programme began, Rolls-Royce has bought back a total of 148,834,593 shares — a figure that makes clear the midweek announcement was a progress update on an existing plan, not the launch of a new one.
The stock nonetheless ended Friday down 6.7%, caught in a broad pullback across aerospace and defence names. Reuters pinned the sector-wide pressure on Safran's warning of slower growth in its civil aftermarket business, with the slowdown in services revenue potentially stretching out to 2027. Higher oil prices added to the drag on investor risk appetite, according to the same reports.
Engine Wins and Service Upgrades
Operationally, Rolls-Royce has had a busier stretch than the share price suggests. On 13 October it disclosed an order from Avolon covering 70 Trent 7000 engines, which will power 35 Airbus A330neo aircraft. Six days later, the company announced expanded benefits for CorporateCare Enhanced customers, widening the scope of services on offer without raising the programme's hourly rate.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rolls-Royce?
There was also movement on the military side. On Tuesday, according to media reports citing company executives, Rolls-Royce brought the AE 1107 engine for the US Army's MV-75 aircraft to full power with a new digital engine control system.
UltraFan Funding Still in the Air
The most closely watched item, however, remains unconfirmed. Reuters, citing the Financial Times, reported that Rolls-Royce is closing in on a British support package worth up to £200 million to fund development and testing of an UltraFan 30 demonstrator aimed at short-haul aircraft. An announcement could come as early as next week, the report suggested — though Reuters was unable to verify the story independently, and Rolls-Royce declined to comment. Neither the completion nor the timing of any agreement is settled.
Investors will get the company's own account of trading on 12 November 2026, when Rolls-Royce has scheduled a business update.
