SanDisk's 378% Revenue Surge Collides With Wall Street's AI Payback Doubts
Published on 11/03/2026 at 17:52 | Editorial boerse-global.deSanDisk shares climbed 5.7% on Wednesday as renewed optimism swept across semiconductor and memory names, with media reports pointing to AI enthusiasm — including the viral popularity of Meta's Muse AI assistant — as the driving force behind the improved sector mood. Lower oil prices also helped lift risk appetite, and Apple's comments about rising memory costs added another tailwind for the industry.
The advance came just a day after the stock fell 6.3% in a session that coincided with a downgrade from Fox Advisors, which cut its rating from "Overweight" to "Equal Weight." That move reflected a more cautious stance on the memory maker, though it carried no deeper operational rationale. For investors, it signals the firm's cooler view rather than a substitute for examining the business itself.
A Sector-Wide Reckoning, Not a SanDisk Warning
Wednesday's weakness in technology and AI stocks extended a selloff from the prior week, with media reports citing concerns over returns on AI investments as the primary weight on the market. Semiconductor names and companies tied to AI data-center infrastructure had already come under pressure on Friday, a move in which Intel's weak outlook also played a part.
The distinction matters. Pressure stemming from the broader sector does not amount to a fresh operational warning from SanDisk. Conflating the two turns a general valuation debate into a premature company-specific diagnosis. Conversely, a strong corporate outlook does not automatically shield a stock from doubts about the entire investment wave.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SANDISK?
The Quarter Itself
For its first quarter of fiscal 2027, SanDisk reported revenue of $11.031 billion, a 378% increase from the year-earlier period. The quarterly filing submitted on Friday shows higher prices along with growth in the Datacenter and Edge segments drove the gain. Consumer revenue moved in the opposite direction, falling 39% to $401 million. GAAP net income came in at $8.101 billion, and adjusted diluted earnings per share reached $49.51 — the metric SanDisk also uses for its guidance.
Looking ahead to the second quarter of fiscal 2027, the company projects revenue of $12.2 billion to $12.6 billion, above the just-reported figure. Adjusted diluted EPS is forecast at $55.00 to $57.00, based on the share count before the announced split.
Those numbers describe SanDisk's business. The overarching market worry, by contrast, concerns whether heavy AI spending will generate sufficient returns. The two are linked as investment themes but are not identical, and a completed quarterly result does not settle the return question for AI infrastructure as a whole. The guidance offers a concrete counterweight to the broader unease, yet it remains an expectation — worth attention without being treated as an achieved outcome.
SANDISK at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Eight-for-One Split Set for November
Separately, the board approved an eight-for-one stock split, with shareholders of record on November 9 receiving seven additional shares for each share held. Distribution is scheduled for after the close on November 19, and split-adjusted trading is expected to begin on November 20.
The measure does not alter the core debate over the profitability of AI investments. It belongs in how investors frame the stock, but it provides no operational answer to the concerns shaping the sector backdrop. The yardstick for SanDisk therefore remains the gap between business performance and market expectation: the forecast supplies verifiable operational markers, while return doubts across the AI sector explain the cautious climate. Neither the downgrade nor the split should obscure that divide.
