ServiceNow's AI Wins Are Piling Up — but the cRPO Guide Is What Investors Are Trading
Published on 11/03/2026 at 15:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deServiceNow has spent the past week stacking up proof that its AI platform is landing inside real enterprises: a five-year commitment from Hewlett Packard Enterprise, a workforce overhaul at Stagwell spanning more than 70 agencies, an expanded Google Cloud tie-up and a ChatGPT plugin born of its OpenAI partnership. What it hasn't done is convince the market that any of this translates into the growth rate investors had already written into the share price.
The stock came under heavy pressure on Thursday following the quarterly update, with Reuters reporting that broader anxiety over AI-driven disruption across the software sector added to the drag. Subscription revenue for the third quarter of 2026 reached $3,988 million, up 21% year over year, while adjusted diluted earnings per share came in at $1.00. Media reports suggested the adjusted EPS figure also fell short of consensus — meaning the spotlight moved quickly off what ServiceNow had already delivered and onto what it can deliver next.
The Forward Number Doing the Damage
Management's guidance for the fourth quarter of 2026 points to subscription revenue of $4,245 million to $4,255 million. The forecast for cRPO — the contracted backlog that converts to revenue within twelve months — sits at 18.5% growth, a figure that landed below market expectations according to Reuters. Current cRPO stood at $13.65 billion.
That gap between delivered growth and guided growth is where the entire debate now lives. The 21% already booked is history; the 18.5% is the yardstick against which the bull case will be measured over the coming months. Worries about AI cannibalizing software budgets are running alongside the opportunities its adoption creates — a tension the sector-wide selloff made plain.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ServiceNow?
Targets Trimmed, Ratings Untouched
The analyst response captured the split between near-term caution and longer-term conviction. Morgan Stanley cut its price target to $160 from $180 on Thursday while keeping its Overweight rating, citing the slower cRPO growth and the fourth-quarter outlook. Citigroup moved its target to $157 from $170, maintaining a Buy. Stifel, by contrast, reaffirmed both its target and its buy recommendation — a reminder that the reassessment was about tempo, not thesis.
Across the Street, the pattern held: price targets came down, positive investment ratings stayed put. That distinction matters. Criticizing the pace of near-term growth is not the same as turning negative on the company.
Where the Platform Is Actually Working
The operational evidence keeps accumulating. HPE selected the ServiceNow AI Platform to power support services across its Cloud & AI division, covering customer service, field operations and AI governance under a deal announced October 28. The same day brought word that Stagwell will automate HR, IT and security workflows across its network of more than 70 agencies.
Partnership depth is expanding in parallel. On October 27, ServiceNow widened its Google Cloud collaboration, connecting its Action Fabric with Gemini Enterprise for industry-specific workflows. The OpenAI expansion announced roughly a week earlier adds a ServiceNow plugin for ChatGPT plus planned cooperation on cybersecurity and AI governance.
Measurable customer outcomes are surfacing too. At client Thrive, a CRM deployment with AI agents achieved a 73% first-contact resolution rate on October 22, according to the company, while time-to-resolution dropped 63%.
Deployment Is Not the Same as Revenue
Those wins answer a different question than the one the market is asking. A signed deployment agreement is not a booked revenue increase, and new partnerships on their own won't relieve the valuation pressure. The real test is whether these implementations show up in growth that clears the bar the market has set — and on that score, the fourth-quarter cRPO guide is the number to watch.
