There is a moment in every corporate recovery when the story stops being about promises and starts being about proof. For Siemens Energy, that moment arrived on Wednesday with a set of third-quarter figures that gave investors something they had not seen in years: a wind division actually making money.

The Munich-based power equipment group reported net income of €1.188 billion for the three months to end-June, a 70.5 percent jump from the same period a year earlier. Revenue climbed 18.5 percent on a comparable basis to €11.4 billion, while the order intake hit a record €17.9 billion, up from €16.6 billion in the prior-year quarter. The order backlog swelled to €162 billion — a pipeline that underscores just how deeply the global push for grid upgrades, electrification and data center power has penetrated the company's core markets.

Gamesa's Long Road Back

The headline numbers, however, only tell part of the story. The real breakthrough sits deeper in the accounts: Siemens Gamesa, the wind turbine subsidiary that had become the company's most persistent headache, swung to a profit of €56 million in the quarter. That compares with a loss of €425 million in the same period a year earlier and marks the first time since 2022 that the division has finished a quarter in the black.

Years of quality problems, onshore turbine recalls and restructuring programs had turned Gamesa into a running sore for the group. Its return to profitability — even at a modest level — signals that the combination of disciplined execution and strong demand can eventually turn even the most troubled operations around. Management continues to target breakeven for the full year, a goal that now looks within reach.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?

The broader earnings picture is equally encouraging. The result before special items nearly tripled to €1.623 billion, and the company has narrowed its full-year guidance, now expecting an operating margin before special items at the upper end of its previous 10 to 12 percent range. Net income for the full year is projected at roughly €4 billion.

A New Identity Takes Shape

The quarter's operational strength comes as the company moves to reshape its public face. In July, Siemens Energy announced preparations for a comprehensive rebranding: both Siemens Energy and Siemens Gamesa are slated to operate under the umbrella brand "Omterra." Whether the move carries strategic weight or is simply cosmetic remains an open question, but the symbolism is hard to miss — a company seeking to shed its loss-making past and establish itself as an independent force in the energy market rather than a perpetual footnote to its former parent.

That physical expansion continues as well. Ground was broken in July on a new factory in Mississippi aimed at expanding transmission capacity — a reminder that the grid build-out is not an abstract macroeconomic theme but a concrete project taking shape in steel and concrete, particularly in the United States where infrastructure demand shows little sign of cooling.

Analysts See Room to Run

The market's response to the blowout quarter has been measured, to say the least. The shares were trading at €152.48 on Wednesday, down 0.40 percent on the day, roughly 22 percent below the 52-week high of €195.38 reached in April. The secondary article, which reported the stock at €153.60 with a gain of 0.33 percent, reflects slightly different intraday timing, but both accounts agree on the central point: even a profit surge of more than 70 percent has not triggered euphoria on the trading floor.

That restraint has not stopped analysts from turning more constructive. JPMorgan reiterated its "Buy" rating with a price target of €235, citing infrastructure demand in the US energy market. Jefferies also maintained its "Buy" stance with a target of €215. Berenberg's Richard Dawson kept a "Buy" rating and €205 target, noting that gas turbine orders came in 6.4 percent above consensus. Bernstein's Alasdair Leslie reaffirmed an "Outperform" rating with a €210 target, pointing to strong profitability and the gas power segment's order momentum. RBC Capital Markets also confirmed its "Outperform" stance. The range of analyst targets — from €200 to €235 — sits well above the current share price, suggesting the sell-side sees substantial upside that the market has yet to embrace.

Siemens Energy at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The company has also been active on the capital returns front. Early June marked the start of the second tranche of a share buyback program worth up to €1 billion, running through the end of September.

What Comes Next

The calendar ahead is packed. Siemens AG, the former parent, reports its own quarterly figures on Thursday, with particular attention on energy infrastructure demand. September brings an appearance at the Commerzbank & ODDO BHF Corporate Conference, followed by the full-year results in November.

For a company in the midst of its most significant structural transformation, the coming months will determine whether this quarter's strength becomes a durable narrative or merely a bright spot in an otherwise uneven recovery. The order book suggests momentum is real; the share price suggests conviction is still building. As the old saying goes, the proof will be in the execution — and for the first time in a long while, Siemens Energy is delivering it.
