The Siemens universe is moving on two fronts at once. The Munich-based industrial conglomerate has just delivered a quarterly earnings beat that prompted a guidance hike, while its separately listed energy subsidiary is courting private equity buyers for a steam turbine business valued at more than €10bn.

Investors, however, seem to be taking both developments in stride — the parent company's shares have drifted lower in recent sessions despite the upbeat fundamentals.

Order Intake Accelerates at the Parent

Siemens AG closed the third quarter of fiscal 2026 with net profit of €2.6bn, a 15 percent improvement year-on-year. Revenue expanded 8 percent to €20.8bn, but the standout metric was order intake, which surged 14 percent to €27.9bn — a pace that outstrips the company's ability to convert bookings into billings, suggesting demand momentum will carry well into coming quarters.

Management has responded by lifting its full-year earnings forecast. The group now guides to earnings per share before purchase price allocation of between €11.20 and €11.50, while maintaining the overall fiscal 2026 outlook.

The order acceleration points to continued willingness among industrial and infrastructure customers to commit capital to automation and digitalization projects. Nowhere is that more evident than in the data-center vertical: bookings in that business have more than doubled over the first nine months of the fiscal year, reaching €6bn. The company is backing that pipeline with investments in new US manufacturing facilities and an expanded collaboration with NVIDIA focused on industrial AI applications.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens?

A Share Price That Refuses to Cooperate

For all the operational strength, the equity market has been unimpressed of late. The stock changed hands at €270.80 in recent trading, down 0.2 percent on the day. Over the past seven sessions the shares have shed nearly 5 percent, and the one-month decline stands at 3.3 percent. That leaves the stock roughly 7 percent below its 52-week high set in late August.

The pullback looks less concerning in a broader context. Siemens shares remain 13 percent higher since the start of the year and have gained 17 percent over the trailing twelve months. The recent softness appears tied less to the company's own results than to a broader consolidation phase following a sustained rally. With a relative strength index near 41, the stock sits in neutral territory — neither overbought nor oversold, though tilting marginally toward selling pressure.

The Friday close came in at €271.45, reflecting a 4.6 percent weekly decline. That places the shares just below their 50-day moving average of €276.81, while still comfortably above the 200-day average of €252.93 — a configuration that technical analysts read as an intact medium-term uptrend despite the near-term wobble.

Analysts Hold Their Ground

Bernstein Research reaffirmed its "outperform" rating on Siemens last Thursday, keeping a price target of €330 — implying meaningful upside from current levels. The house's conviction rests on the combination of order momentum and margin execution that the quarterly numbers have underscored.

The Energy Subsidiary's Portfolio Shuffle

Across the corporate divide, Siemens Energy has initiated a sale process for its steam turbine division, branded "Transformation of Industry." The company is exploring a sale of a majority stake in the business, with Bloomberg reporting that CVC, EQT, Bain, Brookfield and KKR have all expressed interest. Goldman Sachs is advising Siemens Energy on the transaction, which could value the division at more than €10bn based on reports from early August.

A deal of that magnitude would hand Siemens Energy substantial financial firepower while sharpening its focus on growth areas such as grid technology and wind power. For the parent company, the development carries indirect significance: Siemens Energy was carved out in 2020, but the ownership structure continues to factor into how investors assess the broader Siemens group. A successful divestiture would reinforce the energy arm's strategic pivot toward electrification and network infrastructure expansion.

Siemens at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

A Conglomerate Reshaping Itself

The potential steam turbine sale is just one element of a broader restructuring across the Siemens family. Shareholders are slated to vote at the ordinary annual general meeting in February 2027 on plans, announced in April, to spin off 30 percent of the company's stake in Siemens Healthineers. Tax clearance for that transaction has already been secured.

Meanwhile, CEO Roland Busch has weighed in on regulatory matters, warning — per a Manager Magazin report — that excessive regulation of artificial intelligence could stifle innovation speed among European industrial companies. The cautionary note comes as the company pushes ahead on the technology front: a corporate blog post recently highlighted progress on solid-state transformers for data centers, designed to deliver a stable 800-volt DC output from medium-voltage grid connections. A separate post explored practical applications of AI for industrial customers beyond the current hype cycle.

For investors, the central tension is straightforward: the parent company's operational trajectory — record orders, rising profit, a raised outlook — supports the medium-term price targets that analysts have articulated, even if the market has yet to fully price that in. The Siemens Energy sale process adds another layer of potential value realization, and any successful bid from the five interested private equity firms would mark another milestone in the group's ongoing transformation.
