Sivers Semiconductors closed Friday at EUR 2.03, down 11%, as a broad selloff swept through the global semiconductor and technology complex. No company-specific catalyst, fresh analyst commentary or sector event emerged to explain the drop, leaving macroeconomic forces to dictate the session.

The retreat extends a rough stretch for the Swedish chipmaker: across the past seven trading days, the stock has shed 25% of its value. Even so, shares remain up 423% since the start of the year, a reminder of how sharply sentiment has swung around AI-linked names.

AI Spending Doubts Weigh on the Whole Sector

Market watchers pinned the pullback on mounting concern over the durability and debt financing of investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure. According to Reuters, growing skepticism about the sustainability of the AI boom has visibly soured investor mood, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index heading for its steepest multi-day decline since April 2025.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Sivers Semiconductors?

When institutional investors cut exposure to the chip industry, smaller specialist suppliers tend to come under disproportionate selling pressure. Absent supportive company news, macro signals usually set the tone for trading in such names.

Citadel Cuts Disclosed Short Position

Filings with Sweden's financial regulator Finansinspektionen show Citadel Securities (Europe) Limited reduced its disclosed net short position in Sivers Semiconductors on Thursday to 0.55% of capital, down from 0.68% on Tuesday. The US firm first appeared as a public short seller of the Swedish semiconductor company on 9 October. Such register updates reflect the active position management of short sellers, who add to or cover their bets depending on the market phase.

Former Chair Exits Entirely

Attention also turned to the ownership structure. Thomas Duffy, a former chair and deputy chair of Sivers Semiconductors, parted with his entire holding, according to media reports citing data from the Holdings service. The transaction covered 840,000 shares worth roughly SEK 27 million and took place between 26 June and 28 September — well before the latest bout of trading volatility, though the full exit of a former senior figure still drew notice.

Eyes on the 22 October Meeting

With no new operational updates from the company — its most recent release was confined to convening an extraordinary general meeting — investors are looking ahead to that shareholder gathering, scheduled for 22 October 2026 at 16:00 in Stockholm. Many are holding back ahead of the vote after the stock's sharp swings in recent sessions came without any concrete ad-hoc announcements.
