SpaceX has kicked off a sweeping environmental review process with the US Federal Aviation Administration, a procedural step that could eventually allow the company to conduct as many as 456 Starship launches and 912 landings per year at its Starbase facility in Texas. The FAA's announcement on Wednesday marks the formal start of an environmental assessment and preliminary review — explicitly not a final license. Clearing that bar will require the company to satisfy extensive environmental and noise-mitigation conditions before any frequency increase becomes reality.

The proposed ramp-up in launch cadence is widely seen as the linchpin for commercial viability of the next-generation rocket, which SpaceX intends to use for heavy payloads and larger satellite constellations. Yet regulatory friction is building on multiple fronts. The National Radio Astronomy Observatory has filed an objection with the Federal Communications Commission over SpaceX's planned Gen-3 Starlink system, arguing that certain proposed frequency bands could interfere with radio astronomy.

Spectrum Deal and a Multibillion-Dollar Chip Bet

On the network side, SpaceX agreed roughly two weeks ago to acquire a nationwide 800-MHz spectrum portfolio from Grain Management, covering up to 14 MHz of paired spectrum. The deal still requires FCC approval, and the parties have not disclosed the purchase price. Reuters, however, pegged the cash component at around $8 billion. Following that disclosure, Pivotal Research analyst Jeffrey Wlodarczak raised his price target on the stock from $220 to $230 while keeping a "Buy" rating.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SpaceX?

Reuters also reported that management is in talks over a debt financing package totaling $40 billion, earmarked for the purchase of Nvidia AI chips. The proposed structure would comprise roughly $10 billion in bank loans and about $30 billion in investment-grade-rated paper. Those discussions do not yet constitute a finalized agreement.

Launch Cadence Picks Up

Operationally, SpaceX has strung together a dense sequence of missions in recent days. A Falcon rocket lifted off Friday from Vandenberg Space Force Base carrying the classified USSF-481 mission for the U.S. Space Force. Before that, the company launched the CRS-35 cargo mission, delivering 2,860 kilograms of supplies to the International Space Station aboard a Dragon freighter. Ship 40 — the first Starship upper stage to return to its launch site after a spaceflight for technical inspection and analysis — also made its way back to Starbase. The rapid succession of flights and tests underscores the high operational tempo of the vehicle fleet.

Earnings on Deck as Shares Wobble

Investors now turn to the operating picture. SpaceX has scheduled its third-quarter 2026 results for October 20 after the US market close, with a webcast set for 4:30 p.m. ET. Ahead of the print, Evercore ISI analyst Kutgun Maral lifted his price target from $230 to $275 and maintained an "Outperform" rating. The stock closed Friday's European session at €129.96, down 1.9% on the day and 11% over the seven-day stretch. In European trading today, the shares changed hands at €131.46, about 1.3% above their 50-day moving average.

The weekly decline came against a broader soft patch in the technology sector, with media reports also citing restrictions on Starlink service for Ukrainian military drones as a drag on sentiment. With the quarterly figures approaching, revenue streams and the cost structure are back at the center of investor attention.
