Take-Two Draws a Bull and a Trim in the Same Week as GTA VI Clock Ticks Toward November 2026
Published on 11/07/2026 at 03:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deMacquarie opened coverage of Take-Two Interactive with an "Outperform" rating and a $300 price target, betting that Grand Theft Auto VI will lift earnings and free cash flow once the title reaches shelves on November 19, 2026. The call landed a day after BTIG cut its own target on the stock from $313 to $262 while keeping a Buy rating, citing softer mobile data and reduced NBA 2K forecasts ahead of the company's quarterly report. Shares gained 2.1% on the day.
The two notes frame the same company from opposite ends of the telescope. Macquarie is underwriting the long arc — what Take-Two does with the GTA brand after the initial sales wave. BTIG is marking down nearer-term numbers it thinks the market may have set too high.
The recurring-revenue case
At the heart of Macquarie's thesis is GTA Online. The bank sees annual bookings from the multiplayer ecosystem potentially exceeding $3 billion, an analyst projection rather than company guidance. That figure matters because it would represent money coming in year after year, not just a one-off launch spike. If Take-Two can keep players engaged and spending, the argument for durable earnings growth and stronger free cash flow gains real weight. A strong opening weekend would only be the first step; the longer tail would have to carry the growth path afterward.
CEO Strauss Zelnick has built his defense of the schedule on quality. He told the Wall Street Journal that the game's two delays within six months reflected a priority on technical polish. For the bullish case, that stance cuts both ways: extra development time is only vindicated if it produces a game players stay with.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Take-Two Interactive?
Fifteen franchises, one obvious driver
Zelnick, speaking Wednesday at WSJ Tech: California, noted that Take-Two owns 15 game series in which a single release has sold at least 5 million copies. He pointed to Red Dead Redemption, NBA 2K, WWE 2K, BioShock, Borderlands and Civilization, along with the company's mobile business. That breadth underpins the prospect of earnings from multiple brands — though Macquarie's recommendation keeps its focus squarely on GTA as the growth engine.
Preorder estimates that nobody at Take-Two has confirmed
Separately, media reports on Wednesday cited Sensor Tower putting digital preorders of GTA VI at 7.71 million copies as of Tuesday, with gross proceeds estimated at $751 million. Neither Take-Two nor Rockstar has confirmed those figures. They are third-party estimates covering digital preorders only, not total sales of the game, and should not be read as company-reported business numbers.
A stake disclosure and a date to circle
Vanguard Portfolio Management disclosed an economic stake in Take-Two as of September 30, covering 9,601,771 shares, or 5.13% of the relevant share class. The mandatory filing describes the holding at that date and does not establish any purchases beyond it.
Take-Two Interactive at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Take-Two has scheduled results for the second quarter of fiscal 2027 for November 9. That is the report BTIG was looking toward when it trimmed its target; the lower NBA 2K expectations the firm cited are forecasts, not published quarterly results. Macquarie's $300 target, by contrast, rests on the November 2026 launch and the recurring spending that would follow it. Between the two, investors get a near-term caution and a long-term bet — and a stock that rose anyway.
