Thyssenkrupp: Norway Adds, Amundi Cuts, and a 17-Euro Target That Stops Short of Buy

Norges Bank raised its Thyssenkrupp voting stake to 3.35% while Amundi cut to 2.96%; JPMorgan lifted its target to 17 euros but kept Neutral.

Two voting-rights filings landed on Thursday and pointed in opposite directions. Norges Bank disclosed a total position of 3.35% as of Wednesday, up from 2.96%, while Amundi reported a decline to 2.96% from 3.24%, with the threshold crossed on Monday. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs had already reported lower total positions on Tuesday.

The Norwegian increase therefore sits alongside several reductions rather than confirming a broad institutional push into the stock. Nor do the disclosures establish any link to the share price. A total position combines voting rights from shares with positions held through instruments, so it cannot be equated with a pure equity stake — a distinction that matters, because a change in the aggregate figure does not automatically translate into a corresponding purchase or sale of stock. No shared strategy can be inferred from the filings.

JPMorgan Lifts Its Target but Keeps Neutral

A different lens on the company came on 15 October, when JPMorgan raised its price target to 17 euros from 15 while reaffirming a "Neutral" rating. Analyst Dominic O'Kane paired the higher mark with a measured view: he saw only limited room for positive earnings surprises in the upcoming quarterly figures from European steelmakers, even as he called an entry ahead of expected steel price increases and later profit acceleration attractive.

That acceleration is projected for the fourth quarter and 2027, which means the more optimistic target rests on expectations rather than on higher earnings already reported. The unchanged Neutral rating also caps how much of a positive signal the target hike can be read as. A cheaper-looking outlook and a cautious recommendation are not contradictory — they suggest the company could develop better without necessarily beating near-term expectations. Anyone reading only the higher target misses the caveat that comes with it.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Thyssenkrupp?

The share price invites the same distinction. The stock is up 46% since the start of the year. That is no proof of an inflated valuation, but it raises the stakes on whether the next set of figures actually supports hopes for improved results. Possible steel price increases are not yet realized contributions to earnings, and the projected profit acceleration remains a forecast. What matters is not only which improvements are conceivable, but which ones Thyssenkrupp can substantiate with its next reports.

Spinoff Sets a Date, Not an Earnings Proof

The planned listing of tk accelis is a concrete structural step. According to company statements, the spinoff and allocation are scheduled for 27 October 2026, with the first trading day in the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt exchange to follow on 28 October 2026. Shareholders are set to receive one tk accelis share for every 20 Thyssenkrupp shares, and Thyssenkrupp intends to retain 51%.

That gives investors a clear date to work with, but it says nothing automatic about operating strength. A changed ownership structure and an improved earnings base are different things: the listing may make it easier to value individual holdings, yet it does not guarantee a rise in profit. The retained majority stake makes the move a reorganization rather than a full exit, and the direct allocation to shareholders belongs in the economic picture alongside the listing date. Fixating on the calendar alone falls short.

Mid-term, tk accelis is targeting annual revenue growth of more than 4% and an adjusted EBITDA margin of 4% to 5%, according to a Dow Jones report. These are objectives, not results already achieved.

Inovance Pact Opens a Door, Not an Order Book

The same pattern applies to the Automotive division's cooperation with Inovance Automotive. The memorandum of understanding covers steer-by-wire and is initially focused on China, with other international markets envisaged down the road. Such an agreement creates possibilities, but it is not equivalent to a contract for the group as a whole, and deriving concrete additional revenue from it would be premature. Strategic intentions deserve attention; in a valuation, they should not carry the same weight as demonstrated business success.

Thyssenkrupp at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The next hard reference point for assessing results is the publication of Thyssenkrupp's 2025/2026 annual report, announced for 8 December. The stake disclosures, by contrast, mainly provide transparency on how individual investors are positioned.

On balance, the picture argues against a blanket negative verdict: Thyssenkrupp is executing structural steps and working on technological partnerships. It is not yet enough for a convincingly positive one. The decisive evidence has to come from earnings, not from the number of change programs underway.
