TUI Wins Climate Adaptation Honour as Cruise Repair Fallout and Stakeholder Shift Keep Operators Busy
Published on 11/08/2026 at 06:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deTUI's sustainability arm has picked up international recognition, with the "TUI Forest Mallorca" project run by the TUI Care Foundation winning the Global Responsible Tourism Awards 2026. The prize, handed over on Wednesday, came in the climate change adaptation category.
The award lands alongside a busy operational and corporate calendar for the travel group. On the insurance side, TUI Group and Allianz Partners have extended their strategic partnership, a deal announced on 28 October and effective from 1 November for a further four years. Expanding markets and distribution channels sits at the heart of the arrangement, and the two partners also plan to push AI-powered travel insurance products.
Repair overrun leaves agents out of pocket
At sea, TUI Cruises is still working through the consequences of a collision involving the "Mein Schiff 3". Repairs are taking longer than first hoped, and the company confirmed to media that travel agencies will receive no commission on the fully cancelled Norway voyage running from 14 to 28 November. The treatment marks a break with the earlier cancelled Canary Islands trip, where commissions already paid were allowed to stand — meaning the two scrapped sailings now fall under different distribution rules.
The ship is scheduled to return to its regular timetable from 28 November. That date remains a plan rather than a completed fact, with the resumption of normal service not yet carried out.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TUI?
Ebel sees consolidation, not collapse
Looking further out, TUI chief executive Sebastian Ebel gave his read on where the sector is heading on 2 November. According to media reports, he expects mergers in both the airline and hotel segments, while ruling out larger insolvencies that would reshape the market.
Closer to home, TUI is reshaping its customer service operations. Reports about a week ago pointed to roughly 140 job cuts, the bulk of them in the UK. In Germany, eight to ten employees at TUI Customer Operations in Hanover are set to be affected, though the service desk for travel agencies is expected to be spared. Leadership in the German market has also shifted: Christian Bärwind has taken charge of the DACH region and the chairmanship of TUI Deutschland's management board, while Benjamin Jacobi moved over to the hotel division.
New tours product and a date for the numbers
On the product front, TUI Suisse launched TUI Tours on Tuesday, letting customers build tailor-made round trips. The offering debuts with more than 600 suggestions and bespoke itineraries across nearly 100 countries.
