According to proceedings, Samantha was fishing from rocks when she was dragged into the sea. Her father attempted to rescue her, but both were swept away.
The provisional cause of death for both individuals was recorded as drowning. Cornwall police are seeking information regarding a missing orange or peach handbag related to the incident. The joint inquest has been adjourned until July 19, 2027.
Road Traffic Fatalities Under Investigation
In Gwent, an inquest opened on August 5 regarding the death of 79-year-old Wilfred Stuart Cameron, who was found on the A4042 on July 17 and pronounced dead at the scene. While a post-mortem has been conducted, the official cause of death is still awaited. A full hearing is scheduled for April 27, 2027.
Separately, an inquest opened on August 4 for Sithandazile Nkomo, 52, who died following a collision on the M62 on July 11. Reports presented to the coroner indicated that Nkomo was driving the wrong way on the motorway before colliding with another vehicle. She suffered cardiac arrest and died at the scene. The investigation remains adjourned pending the completion of a road traffic report.
In Stoke-on-Trent, an inquest into the death of 40-year-old Steven Field was discontinued this week. Field died in a crash on June 15, 2025. The coroner determined that a full inquest was unnecessary as the facts of the case had been established during criminal proceedings, which resulted in a prison sentence for the driver responsible for the collision.
