Investors kept faith with the Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF USD Accumulation through the back half of October, steering EUR 641.8 million of fresh money into the fund in the week of 19 to 23 October. That tally, drawn from a weekly ranking of European exchange-traded funds, put the global tracker at the top of the continent's inflow table — and it came on top of EUR 535.2 million that had already landed in the product the week before.

The buying spree unfolded against a noticeably shakier backdrop for world equities. On Friday the MSCI World index fell 1.51% as a broad sell-off swept through technology shares, with Reuters attributing the jitters to mounting doubts over whether the vast sums big tech is ploughing into artificial intelligence will ever pay off. A disappointing Intel forecast and Amazon's hefty AI capital spending added further pressure.

Semiconductors take the brunt

The damage was concentrated in chips and software. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropped more than 7% on Friday, according to Reuters, while the S&P 500's technology sector shed 4.2%. Intel had warned of persistently weak PC demand into next year, and Amazon's numbers refocused attention on the industry's ballooning AI outlays. Nvidia bore the heaviest single weight on the S&P 500, tumbling 4.2% on an AP report.

The Nasdaq Composite closed 2.9% lower, with Reuters flagging declines across the biggest AI backers — Microsoft, Meta Platforms, Amazon and Alphabet — whose weakness dragged on global risk appetite. Alphabet had already soured the mood a day earlier: Kiplinger reported negative free cash flow of USD 9.07 billion for the third quarter alongside capital expenditure of USD 51.4 billion, while the company reaffirmed full-year investment guidance of USD 195 billion to USD 205 billion, a signal that the spending spree is nowhere near finished.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF USD Accumulation?

Price slips, but the trend holds

The turbulence left its mark on the ETF, which closed Friday at EUR 168.86, down 0.9% on the day. Over 30 days the fund is off 0.3%, while the seven-day picture is essentially flat with a gain of 0.04%. It now sits 3.0% below its 52-week high of 7 October.

Zoom out, though, and the picture brightens considerably. The ETF is up 16% year to date, the same order of magnitude as its twelve-month return, and it stands 21% above its 52-week low of 21 November 2025. It also remains comfortably above its 200-day moving average of EUR 159.68 — a technical marker pointing to an intact longer-term uptrend.

That gap between a softening price and relentless inflows suggests many investors are treating the tech-driven pullback as a buying opportunity rather than a cue to head for the exits. The fund's broad remit helps explain the resilience: spanning thousands of holdings across regions and sectors, it dilutes the impact of any single trouble spot. Worries about Intel, Amazon or Alphabet land far more softly on a globally diversified index than on a concentrated technology portfolio. None of the day's moves were fund-specific news — they were simply market repricing of positions the ETF holds.

Reuters also pointed to profit-taking after months of strong gains in AI-linked stocks, and to rising oil prices that stoked fresh concerns about the US economy. With the debate over how the hyperscalers will finance their multi-billion-dollar infrastructure build-out still unresolved, the fortunes of tech heavyweights — and with them this global tracker — look set to stay in the spotlight in the weeks ahead.
