Vertiv's Record Quarter Collides With a Political Sell-Off
Published on 11/06/2026 at 02:50 | Editorial boerse-global.deVertiv's stock fell 14% as a sweeping Democratic victory in the US midterms stoked fears of tighter scrutiny and possible project delays for data-center and AI infrastructure names, Reuters reported. The drop came even though the company had raised its 2026 guidance only a day earlier.
The political jitters weren't confined to Vertiv. Media reports tied the selling pressure to a broader retreat from data-center and AI-infrastructure stocks, with concerns centering on potential restrictions on construction, power consumption and permitting for data centers.
Guidance Raised, Then Tested
On October 28 Vertiv lifted its full-year 2026 outlook to revenue of $14.45–$14.85 billion, with adjusted diluted earnings per share of $7.10–$7.20. That puts the revenue midpoint at $14.65 billion and the adjusted EPS midpoint at $7.15.
The upgrade rested on a powerful third quarter. Revenue hit $4.313 billion, up 61% year over year, while adjusted diluted EPS climbed 78% to $2.21. Organic order intake more than doubled, growing over 100% according to the company.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Vertiv?
Those figures describe business already booked. The political worry is about what comes next — and that distinction tends to get lost in a violent price swing. The raised guidance argues against any reading that the operating story has already cracked, though it remains a company forecast rather than a guarantee.
Building Out Beyond the Rack
Vertiv has spent October widening what it can sell and service. On October 27 it completed the acquisition of UtilityInnovation Group, paying roughly $1.45 billion in cash upfront, with up to an additional $1.15 billion in contingent cash consideration tied to conditions. The initial payment is done; the extra sum is not — a distinction that matters when weighing the deal's full financial commitment against the growth options it opens.
A day earlier, Vertiv closed its purchase of King Environmental Services, which according to the company extends its services around fluid management, commissioning and load testing across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The same day brought the launch of SmartIT, a prefabricated infrastructure package combining rack infrastructure with power conversion and distribution, liquid cooling and monitoring for enterprises and data centers. New products, though, don't automatically translate into extra revenue or faster project starts.
Simulation, Silicon and a Norwegian Proving Ground
Vertiv's October 21 collaboration with NVIDIA, built on Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE platform, illustrates how ambitious the technical pitch has become. Under defined assumptions, the company says it could deliver up to 30% more cumulative AI token output over the first twelve months — explicitly a potential improvement, not a promise. Polar Data Centers is applying the approach in the first phase of its project in Norway.
Vertiv at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
On the supply side, Vertiv announced Wednesday a three-year strategic agreement with Infineon Technologies covering silicon and silicon-carbide power semiconductors for its power portfolio, including systems running at 800 volts DC.
Weighing it all up: Vertiv is expanding products and services while growing fast. The question for investors isn't only what the company can deliver — it's how quickly data-center projects actually move forward, and whether the delays now feared ever materialize.
