ATB Cormark Capital Markets initiated coverage of Volatus Aerospace on Wednesday with a speculative buy rating and a price target of C$1,00, according to a report in The Globe and Mail. The call lands as the company's shares slip — down 3,1% to €0,2975 on the day, with other reports putting the decline at 2,9%.

The initiation is not an isolated vote of confidence. Roughly two weeks earlier, two other research houses had already lifted their price targets while leaving their buy ratings untouched. One raised its target from C$0,95 to C$1,00; the other from C$0,90 to C$0,95. In each case it was the target that moved, not the recommendation — and ATB Cormark's stance carries an explicit caveat: the buy call remains flagged as speculative.

A NATO Contract Only Partly Called

Behind the ratings sits an operational story with room to run. Volatus has a contract with a NATO partner for an intelligence and surveillance training system, and it has now delivered the first unmanned aircraft fleet in full under the first tranche. The customer has begun exercising its option on a second tranche and placing additional orders. The remaining amount stays at the customer's disposal for orders at its own discretion through the end of 2027 — meaning that portion of the contract value is tied to future orders rather than booked as a firm commitment.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Volatus Aerospace?

A Lithuanian Target, Mostly Paid in Stock

Corporate development has also been in motion. Volatus has agreed to acquire all of AISPECO UAB, a Lithuanian company that develops airborne sensor systems and flight-management software. The stated base consideration is US$10,5 million, split between US$3,0 million in cash and US$7,5 million in Volatus shares. Up to US$2,5 million more could follow, contingent on hitting milestones.

According to CEO Glen Lynch, Lithuania's competition council has already given its approval. The company expects the transaction to close in October, subject to the remaining conditions and sign-off from the TSX. As it stands, the deal is agreed rather than completed — the fixed consideration and any milestone payments alike still hinge on the closing conditions being met.
