Volkswagen moved to shore up its balance sheet on Thursday, placing two subordinated green hybrid bonds for a combined 1.95 billion euros, according to Bloomberg. The capital raise landed in the same week that the German automaker's shares came under renewed pressure and a pair of brokers trimmed their price targets.

The stock shed 2.5% on Friday. Reuters attributed the decline to a broad selloff across European equity markets, while also listing Volkswagen among the notable losers on a weak German index as a global tech rout drove the selling. The two accounts do not tie the drop to any company-specific development.

A Bruising Quarter Sets the Tone

The bond placement follows a difficult reporting period. Roughly two weeks ago, Volkswagen disclosed a loss after tax of 5.82 billion euros for the third quarter of 2026, alongside an operating loss of 5.86 billion euros.

Against that backdrop, analysts have been recalibrating. Deutsche Bank Research cut its price target to 100 euros from 105 on Monday while keeping its buy rating, according to media reports. The bank said its discussion with finance chief Arno Antlitz centered on the restructuring, cost reductions in Germany and the situation in China.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Volkswagen?

JPMorgan also moved on Monday, lowering its target to 85 euros from 110 and maintaining a neutral stance. Both houses, then, stuck with their existing recommendations even as their targets came down.

Bernstein Reinstates Coverage, HSBC Trims

A third view arrived on Thursday, when Bernstein Research resumed coverage with a market-perform rating and an 80 euro target. Analyst Harry Martin pointed to the group's extensive restructuring as well as its investments in products and local manufacturing.

HSBC, meanwhile, reduced its target to 107 euros from 115 on Wednesday, media reports said, while reaffirming its buy recommendation. The two brokers thus pair their latest assessments with differing investment verdicts.

Audi Weighs a Bigger U.S. Footprint

On the industrial side, Reuters reported Thursday, citing published documents, that Audi is considering expanding its planned plant in Georgia. A second phase could involve 3 billion US dollars of investment and the creation of 3,000 jobs.

Closer to home, the restructuring is already reaching into smaller units. Volkswagen subsidiary Elli plans to exit the charging hardware business, according to media reports from Tuesday, refocusing its portfolio on digital, scalable business models. Talks with employee representatives are under way for roughly 400 staff, with the number of possible job cuts left open.

Software Architecture and a Port Pilot

Volkswagen and NXP Semiconductors agreed a strategic partnership on 26 October. Under the companies' statements, NXP microcontrollers will form a building block of the group's future software-defined vehicle architecture, with the first vehicle built on it slated for 2027.

Two days later, on 28 October, Volkswagen, Deutsche Telekom, Unikie and BIBA wrapped up the "AutoLog" innovation project, which tested automated vehicle logistics at the port of Emden. Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport funded the initiative.

Investors get their next formal update on 11 November 2026, when the UBS European Conference takes place in London — an appearance Volkswagen lists in its financial calendar.
