Xiaomi pushed deeper into artificial intelligence on Tuesday, releasing a family of multimodal models under the MiMo-V2.6 banner just one day after teasing the lineup. The open-source software, which spans the MiMo-V2.6 Pro, MiMo-V2.6 Flash and an additional MiMo-V2.6-Pro-UltraSpeed variant, is being distributed through AI Studio, MiMo Code, MiMo Desktop, the MiMo API and OpenRouter.

According to media reports, the Pro configuration notched an Intelligence Index score of 46 in testing by Artificial Analysis. The launch underscores Xiaomi's push to embed software and AI capabilities more deeply across its product ecosystem — an ambition now running in parallel with a steady cadence of hardware premieres.

Foldable Demand and an Accessory Wave

The company's premium foldable, priced between 10,999 Yuan and 14,999 Yuan depending on configuration, reportedly moved roughly 36,000 units on its first day of sales. Xiaomi put the volume increase over the previous generation in the same segment at 310%.

On the accessories front, the 41-millimeter Watch S5 and the Redmi Buds 8s went on sale Tuesday after pre-orders opened earlier in the month. The earbuds' retail debut marks the latest step in broadening a companion-device portfolio designed to lock customers into Xiaomi's hardware web.

A Geopolitical Wildcard

Reuters reports that Xiaomi executives could form part of a prepared business delegation for a Xi Jinping visit to Washington, though no final confirmation of their participation has emerged. The mere prospect lent the shares some support at the start of the trading week, with the stock climbing 6.0% on Monday to close at 3.09 Euro.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Xiaomi?

That momentum has since faded. Xiaomi shares were changing hands at 3.04 Euro on Tuesday, down 1.7% on the day and 30% since the start of the year.

The Margin Question Hanging Over the Premium Push

For investors, the central strategic puzzle is whether Xiaomi can take share in the high-price tier and convert it into sustainably fatter operating margins. The product offensive around new foldables kicked off roughly two weeks ago, a market-entry phase during which the stock managed a modest 1.9% gain. At the Xiaomi 18 Fold's entry price of 10,999 Yuan — stretching to 14,999 Yuan for the top configuration — the company runs straight into entrenched rivals Huawei and Apple.

Everything hinges on buyer willingness. Customers must absorb these devices in large volumes at steep prices for the revenue to justify the heavy development and production outlays. In an optimistic scenario, Xiaomi successfully interlinks its product categories, so buyers of premium smartphones increasingly pick up matching companions. Wearables such as the new Watch S5 and the Redmi Buds 8s carry real weight here. A tightly closed ecosystem raises switching costs noticeably, and users are less likely to defect when their hardware components mesh seamlessly, lifting repeat purchase rates for future generations. Confirmed inclusion in an official Washington delegation would add further prestige, reinforcing Xiaomi's standing in the global economic order and potentially cementing institutional investor confidence in its international footprint.

India Scrutiny and a Bruising Home Market

Risks are just as tangible. India's Serious Fraud Office recently recommended a detailed investigation into the company's local operations, citing alleged irregularities in its business model and compliance with foreign investment law. Xiaomi told Reuters it has not received any formal notice. Even so, regulatory probes in such a critical growth market weigh on the valuation, and penalties or restrictions could put a meaningful brake on the India business.

At home, competition is ferocious. Rivals including Huawei are rolling out their own premium devices simultaneously. If customers hold back, subsequent price cuts loom — discounts that would immediately undercut the profitability the new lineup is meant to deliver.

What to Watch Next

Market participants now have concrete conditions to weigh. As long as the stock defends the recent 3.09 Euro level, the recovery stays intact; a sustained slide back below the mark of recent weeks would threaten a continuation of the medium-term downtrend.

The next real catalyst is actual demand for the freshly launched product families. Beyond Tuesday's earbud rollout, the foldable's sell-through takes center stage. Early hard sales figures from Chinese retail will reveal just how potent the assault on the top tier really is — and the market is still waiting for clarity on who will fill out the business delegation bound for the United States.

Adding to the calendar, Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit runs from September 22 to 24. Industry watchers see the event as a possible window for the expected unveiling of the regular Xiaomi 18 series, though the company has yet to confirm an exact date.
