Xiaomi investors are being asked to weigh two very different clocks. The first is the smartphone cycle, where richer product mixes could lift margins within quarters. The second is a sprawling set of expansion projects — electric vehicles, robotics and a battery stake — whose payoffs sit much further out. Daiwa's Tuesday note nudged its Xiaomi price target to HK$35 from HK$30 while keeping a Buy rating, and the reasoning leaned squarely on the first clock: premium handsets supporting better margins.

That call lands against a more cautious near-term read from Citi, which on 2 November cut its target to HK$33.2 while retaining a Buy recommendation, citing weaker expected results for the third quarter of 2026. Two banks, two directions on valuation, and a common thread — both are waiting on the same set of numbers.

A Seven-Day Run Raises the Bar

The stock has already climbed 16% over seven trading days, a move that arrived alongside a broader recovery in Chinese mega-cap technology names flagged by China Daily on Thursday. Momentum of that size sharpens the question of what justifies it. For the bulls, the answer has to be operational: fatter margins, credible earnings visibility, or progress that can be tied to a concrete financial benefit. Market sentiment alone will not carry the story if the figures disappoint.

Daiwa's revision came with a modest tweak to its modelling — earnings-per-share forecasts for 2027 and 2028 were each lifted by 1%. Small as that is, it points to a slightly more favourable profit outlook, though it remains an analyst projection that has yet to be tested in actual trading.

Premium Handsests as the Profit Anchor

The crux is whether Xiaomi can convert a richer product mix into durable margin gains. That matters more to the investment case than any single technology headline, provided the effect eventually shows up in the accounts. The link between product positioning and profit is what counts: higher-end devices strengthen the thesis only once their economic impact becomes visible.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Xiaomi?

Fresh off the press, Xiaomi said on 2 November via its official X account that the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will launch worldwide in November. New products open fresh sales opportunities — but only if the global rollout translates into real demand. A wider international footprint is valuable to shareholders when it produces economically sustainable growth, not merely volume.

The EV Record and the Target Still to Be Met

The vehicle business shows how demanding that execution can be. Xiaomi reported more than 50,000 deliveries for October just over a week ago — its strongest month of 2026. Reuters also reported the company's plan to ramp production toward an annual target of 550,000 vehicles.

The record is a positive demand signal. What the valuation cares about is how reliably Xiaomi hits its own marks. Deliveries from January through October totalled roughly 336,000 cars, leaving a substantial gap to the full-year goal. The coming months will be measured against that number.

Capital allocation runs alongside. Xiaomi Technology is to invest 1.7 billion yuan in Sunwoda Power through Hanxing Venture Capital, a plan reported on 29 October that involves subscribing to about 898 million yuan of newly registered capital. Sunwoda Power is the battery subsidiary of Sunwoda. The move points to a long-term build-out around the vehicle business — and to further capital committed before any return is visible.

Robots on the Factory Floor

Robotics adds a longer-range option. Xiaomi disclosed on Wednesday that a humanoid robot completed an eight-hour shift at a sorting station in its car plant. Should reliably usable applications emerge, the technology could become economically relevant to its own manufacturing. The investor payoff would then hinge on how the machines perform in live operation. Xiaomi gave no figures on throughput or human intervention during the reported factory stint, so any productivity gain remains tied to hard operating data. What matters is whether the technology holds up under repeated production conditions.

In the optimistic scenario, the smartphone business validates the margin expectations while the car operation keeps pushing output. Rising vehicle volumes and better handset margins would together strengthen the earnings outlook, giving the bullish case a broader operational footing.

Xiaomi at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Where the Risk Sits

The chief danger is a gap between rising expectations and delivered results. If the margin improvement Daiwa anticipates comes in weaker than hoped, the recent confidence loses a key operational anchor — and after a strong weekly advance, that kind of disappointment could leave the valuation exposed. A turn in the wider tech rally would add pressure, forcing Xiaomi to prove itself through its own numbers rather than the sector mood.

The next hard catalyst is the third-quarter 2026 report, due after market close on 24 November. A board meeting that day is set to approve the results. Attention will centre on the earnings quality of the smartphone division and the economics of the vehicle operation.

That leaves investors with a clean either-or. A continuation of the positive run looks more plausible if operating results carry the expectations. If margins lag the hoped-for improvement, the recent share-price gain becomes harder to defend. The quarterly figures should help sort one scenario from the other.
