XPeng's Research Lab, Korean Showroom and Robotaxi Fleet All Face the Same November 16 Reckoning
Published on 11/08/2026 at 02:41 | Editorial boerse-global.deXPeng shares climbed 7.2% on Friday, carried by a broader recovery in Chinese electric-vehicle and growth stocks after the sell-off that followed the US midterm elections. No company-specific catalyst drove the move that day, according to media reports. The gain came instead from a sector-wide shift in sentiment — and it lands just as investors are weighing whether XPeng's operational momentum can survive contact with its own financial statements.
That test arrives on November 16, 2026, when the company releases unaudited third-quarter results before US markets open.
A Perception Model With No Product Attached
The most recent piece of XPeng news was technological rather than commercial. On Wednesday the company, working with Peking University, the University of Hong Kong and other academic partners, unveiled GroundingPI — an open-source foundation model for visual perception aimed at the field of physical AI.
In its research team's evaluation, GroundingPI averaged 73.68 across 34 perception benchmarks. XPeng was explicit that the work is exploratory. No integration into commercial products was announced alongside the publication, and the company said the research does not demonstrate commercial readiness. For investors, the model is a signal of ambition rather than a revenue line; its practical value would only be proven by later real-world use.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XPeng?
Korea Gets a Name, and a Deadline
Expansion is where the operational scorecard gets more concrete. On Tuesday, Asia Business Daily reported that XPeng Motors Korea has appointed Lee Mansik, formerly of Volvo Cars Korea, to lead the Korean business from December 1. A named executive gives the market-entry plan a clear point of accountability, though the real measure will be how convincingly XPeng converts the announced launch into customers.
The base for that push is stronger than it was a year ago. October deliveries hit a record 50,237 vehicles, up 22% month on month and 20% year on year. Overseas shipments also set a monthly record, climbing 166% year on year to 13,326 units — a figure that gives the international strategy real weight, provided XPeng can keep building on it.
Robotaxis Move From Validation to Real-World Trial
A second gauge of execution sits in Guangzhou. On October 26, XPeng disclosed that it had secured approval for citywide Level 4 robotaxi demonstration rides, shifting XPeng YOYO from road testing into trials under real operating conditions and a check on the business model. Initial access will be by invitation.
The project matters because it links technical capability to commercial viability: autonomous driving only carries economic weight once it performs reliably in practice. GroundingPI, the open perception model, fits the same narrative arc — research first, application later, with the quality of execution as the yardstick.
XPeng at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
MONA L05 Aims for 10,000 in Month One
The vehicle business offers another near-term checkpoint. Media reports said customer deliveries of the MONA L05 began on Wednesday, with CEO He Xiaopeng setting a target of 10,000 units in the first month — an ambitious figure that will be judged against actual deliveries.
Taken together, record October volumes, the groundwork for Korea and the robotaxi trial give a cautiously positive case, conditional on XPeng translating its plans into durable operating results. The November 16 report should show whether sales growth, international expansion and technology development are being fused into economic quality — or whether the story remains, for now, a research project.
