XRP Ledger's Batch Upgrade Nears Activation as Clearpool Backs Expansion and ETF Flows Wobble

Validators on the XRP Ledger have thrown their weight behind a technical overhaul that could reshape how the network handles bundled transfers. More than 80% of nodes have signaled support for the so-called Batch upgrade (XLS-56), and if that backing holds, the change takes effect on October 9.

Atomic execution for grouped transactions

Known on-chain as BatchV1_1, the amendment lets two to eight transactions be packaged into a single operation. The mechanism follows atomic execution principles: either every bundled transfer clears successfully, or the entire batch rolls back in full.

Ayo Akinyele, engineering chief at development house RippleX, said the feature is aimed in part at settling securities and cash transfers simultaneously. Trading venues and custodians would be able to fold service fees directly into customer payments. Even when transactions are grouped, the standard fees for each individual operation still apply.

Full activation on the mainnet requires a qualified majority among the network's 35 trusted validators. That 80% threshold must be sustained without interruption across a two-week window.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

A separate vote slips, and a lending proposal enters the fray

Not every amendment has moved as smoothly. A missed voting threshold pushed back the earliest possible activation of PermissionDelegationV1_1 to Thursday, October 8, at roughly 21:25 UTC, after validator support briefly dipped below the required level. Dropping under the quota restarted the protocol's standard two-week countdown from scratch, and implementation remains contingent on validators holding their approval throughout that period.

Governance demands are stacking up on several fronts. Alongside permission delegation, RippleX put a further proposal to a vote on September 30. The LendingProtocolV1_1 amendment would introduce closed credit vaults and cash-basis accounting. It too requires sustained validator consent and must be coordinated with other protocol adjustments before it can go live on the mainnet.

Clearpool's governance backs a move onto the ledger

Institutional interest is widening in parallel. The governance of decentralized credit protocol Clearpool voted today, with 97.16% in favor, to expand onto the XRP Ledger. The step includes migrating the existing protocol token in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Lending within the project is to be run in cooperation with Cicada Partners and Ripple. Financing will be settled exclusively through the RLUSD stablecoin, while risk management stays off-chain.

Together, the developments reflect an effort to push the XRP Ledger beyond plain payment transfers into more complex capital-market processes. Whether the new functions draw lasting institutional liquidity hinges largely on actual use by financial service providers.

Routine escrow release, and mixed ETF flows

On October 1, Ripple carried out its scheduled release of one billion XRP from escrow. The monthly event does not necessarily mean the unlocked tokens were fully sold or that circulating supply rose by that amount — a substantial portion often flows back into new escrow arrangements after the cycle.

Institutional vehicles told a choppier story. US spot XRP ETFs saw uneven capital movement, with media reports citing net outflows of $3.28 million on Friday, all of it from Bitwise's product. That setback followed a net inflow of $4.07 million on Thursday.

XRP at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Adoption in traditional finance kept advancing. On September 29, Brazilian depository CSD BR began using the XRP Ledger as an additional recording and verification layer for financial assets, starting with fund shares from investment bank BTG Pactual. CSD BR's existing infrastructure continues to serve as the official registry and settlement system.

Price holds near prior-month levels

On the crypto spot market, the token has shown little reaction to the coming network changes. XRP trades at $1.52, roughly where it stood over the weekend, and sits 8.0% above its 50-day average of $1.41.

The asset remains well clear of its annual low. At the current price it stands 54% above the 52-week trough of $0.9876 marked in August, while posting a 17% decline since the start of the year. Market participants now have their eyes on the activation deadline arriving this Friday.

On the corporate front, attention is turning to the Swell industry conference, whose this-year edition is set to begin on October 27 in New York. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse is slated to deliver the opening address.
