AFC Energy’s stock took a sharp hit on Friday, shedding nearly 11% to trade at €0.17, down from Thursday’s close of €0.20. The pullback comes after a months-long rally that had propelled the shares higher, prompting profit-taking ahead of the company’s second-quarter report due in June 2026.

Despite the day’s losses, the stock has still delivered a year-to-date gain of roughly 47%, a figure that varies slightly from the 63% advance cited by other analysts depending on the pricing snapshot used. The current market capitalisation stands at approximately £192 million.

The company is betting heavily on its Hy-5 technology, which cracks ammonia into hydrogen on-site, to undercut traditional diesel generators. Partnerships with industrial heavyweights Komatsu and Speedy Hire are already testing the systems in real-world conditions. AFC Energy’s goal is to reach price parity with diesel generators in the coming months, a milestone that would remove the biggest barrier to adoption for green alternatives.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying AFC Energy?

Volatility remains a defining feature of the stock. On an annualised basis, it exceeds 90%, while the 30-day reading sits above 80%. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) currently hovers around 39.4, edging toward oversold territory but still reflecting a neutral stance according to some measures.

The 52-week low of €0.09 is well behind the current price, while the year’s peak of €0.21 sits roughly 15% above. Analysts do not expect any dividend payout for the current financial year, as capital is being channelled into project development and scaling production.

All eyes are now on the June 2026 quarterly report. Market participants will scrutinise progress on cost reduction and the pace at which AFC Energy can bring its hydrogen generators to commercial viability. The broader shift in energy-sector capital toward zero-emission infrastructure provides a tailwind, but the company’s success ultimately hinges on how quickly its technology reaches market readiness.
