The investment holding company is walking a tightrope. On one side, a share price that has shed nearly 19% over twelve months and teeters below its 200-day moving average. On the other, a burst of activity: two new acquisitions, a Dutch divestment, a proposed €2.00 dividend, and a growing pipeline of exits. For Mutares, the gap between corporate momentum and market sentiment has rarely felt wider.

The stock slipped another 2.8% on Tuesday to €27.45, extending a weekly decline of almost 6%. It now trades roughly 25% below its 52-week high of €36.75. The technical picture is mixed: the share holds above its 50-day average but remains stubbornly under the 200-day line of €29.04. The relative strength index sits at 47, signalling no extreme oversold condition, while 30-day volatility of 22.45% suggests a market that is jittery but not panicked.

Under the hood, management is pushing hard to change the narrative. Mutares has sealed the acquisition of TREPEL Airport Equipment and MAFI Transport-Systeme, two specialists in ground-support equipment for airports and heavy-duty terminal tractors for ports and logistics hubs. The combined businesses employ roughly 410 people and generate around €150 million in revenue. They will be folded into the Infrastructure & Special Industries segment, with the transaction expected to close in the third quarter of 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.

At the same time, the group is streamlining. Its subsidiary F.lli Ferrari is selling its Dutch distribution business to the HMF Group, a move designed to sharpen the focus on crane platforms and core manufacturing.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Mutares?

The expansion push is backed by fresh firepower. Mutares raised €105 million (gross) in a rights issue in April and is now planning a second U.S. location. The company’s acquisition pipeline currently spans targets with a combined revenue of €4.8 billion. On the exit side, management talks of the largest pipeline in company history, having already signed several transactions. The full exit from Terranor via a private placement to institutional investors generated a capital return “well above” the stated target range, according to the company.

Shareholders have a concrete reason to pay attention this summer. At the annual general meeting on July 3, the board will propose a dividend of €2.00 per share as a minimum payout. If exits materialise successfully, an additional performance dividend could follow. For a stock trading around €27, that base payout alone represents a yield of over 7%.

None of this has been enough to reverse the bearish mood. The first quarter brought higher consolidated revenue and an improved adjusted operating result, and the full-year guidance remains unchanged: revenue between €7.9 billion and €9.1 billion, and net profit in a range of €165 million to €200 million. Yet the market capitalisation of roughly €606 million reflects deep scepticism. Investors are waiting for delivered exits, not promises. The share’s failure to reclaim the 200-day moving average suggests the burden of proof still lies with management.

Mutares at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Mutares has woven a compelling operational story – acquisitions that add scale, a dividend that rewards patience, and an exit pipeline that could unlock value. But the stock chart is a reminder that stories only become convincing when they translate into realised gains. The coming quarters, with the TREPEL/MAFI closing and further disposals on the horizon, will show whether the market is ready to reconsider the discount.
