Siemens is betting big on artificial intelligence to deepen its push into high-margin services, unveiling a new automated maintenance tool for commercial buildings that promises to fix faults before they occur. The service, dubbed Asset Performance Advanced, processes plant data, delivers predictive error diagnostics, and can independently trigger workflows for internal technicians or Siemens service centers. Woven into the existing Building X digital platform, the offering targets highly sensitive property portfolios such as hospitals and university campuses, where operational reliability is paramount.

The launch dovetails with a steady expansion of the company’s service business. Revenue from that segment recently reached around €1.2 billion, and the new software aims to lock in clients with recurring income that typically delivers fatter margins than traditional hardware sales. Siemens has already lifted its full-year guidance for the Smart Infrastructure division, with comparable revenue growth now forecast at 8 to 10 percent. The unit is targeting an industrial margin of 18 to 19 percent.

Underpinning this strategic shift is a powerful financial performance in the second fiscal quarter. Group revenue slipped slightly on a nominal basis to €19.8 billion, but adjusted for currency effects it rose 6 percent. Free cash flow more than doubled, surging 71 percent to roughly €1.7 billion. The order book swelled to a record €124 billion, fueled by a strong intake across the conglomerate.

Smart Infrastructure was the standout, booking quarterly orders of more than €7.5 billion — a comparable increase of 35 percent year on year. US data center and semiconductor projects drove much of that growth. The software business also recorded a clear revenue increase, underscoring the broader move toward digital solutions.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens?

That said, profitability took a hit during the period. The industrial profit margin contracted to 15.4 percent, down from previous levels, and diluted earnings per share fell to €2.58. Management nevertheless reaffirmed the annual outlook, betting that the cash flow momentum and backlog will translate into improved margins over the coming quarters.

Major investment banks see the numbers as a buying opportunity. JPMorgan set a €335 price target with an Overweight rating, Bernstein Research raised its target to €300 (Outperform), and Goldman Sachs lifted its view to €290 (Buy). Only Barclays remained cautious at €230 (Underweight). Goldman’s Daniela Costa expects Siemens to unveil a new share buyback program once the current one expires, a move that would further support shareholder returns.

At the bourse, shares have responded positively. The stock closed Wednesday at €263.15, up 2.7 percent on the day, bringing year-to-date gains to around 8 percent. Earlier in the session the stock traded near €261 before accelerating. The 52-week high of roughly €272 is now within striking distance.

Siemens at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Technically, the rally has pushed the relative strength index above 81, flagging an overbought condition. The gap to the 50-day moving average of circa €236 underscores the velocity of the recent move. Whether the operational numbers can sustain this valuation will become clearer in August, when Siemens reports third-quarter results. For now, the combination of AI-driven service expansion and a cash flow bonanza has given the bulls fresh ammunition.
