How Turnstiles fits Billy Joel’s pop-rock catalogue
Billy Joel is an American singer-songwriter and pianist whose music draws on pop, rock, soul and jazz-influenced writing. Britannica describes Billy Joel’s musical identity through pop ballads and a catalogue that moves between these styles.
His album catalogue includes Piano Man, The Stranger, 52nd Street, Glass Houses, An Innocent Man, Storm Front and River of Dreams. The anniversary edition revisits the record that introduced songs such as New York State of Mind and Say Goodbye to Hollywood while adding performances and studio material around it.
Archive recordings broaden Billy Joel Tonight
The audio portion moves beyond the standard album. It brings together demos and early versions, album-session material, a live set from the Bottom Line and the concert film’s performance audio.
The film and Blu-ray also carry rehearsals and production inserts. Together, the formats place the Turnstiles songs beside alternate mixes, live performances and material that had not been commercially available.
