Chris Stapleton brings Kentucky roots to the ballot
Born in Lexington, Kentucky, Stapleton is a country singer-songwriter and guitarist. A career biography records his early Nashville work as a songwriter before his solo career, a path that connects his writing and performing roles.
His catalogue includes Traveller, From A Room: Volume 1, From A Room: Volume 2, Starting Over and Higher, according to his label’s artist profile. The music combines country with Southern soul, a blend that sits beside the range of categories in which he is nominated.
The nominated work connects solo and collaborative strands
The nominations connect two strands of Stapleton’s work. A Song To Sing is credited as a musical event featuring Miranda Lambert with Stapleton, while White Horse is entered in the video category.
The official list names Dave Cobb as producer of the musical-event entry and Running Bear as director of the video. Together with the two individual vocal categories, those entries place collaboration, songwriting and performance within one CMA programme.
