Simple Minds formed in Glasgow and crossed post-punk with new wave
AllMusic describes Simple Minds as a Scottish group formed in Glasgow, with styles spanning new wave, art rock and dance-rock. Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, the founding singer and guitarist, remain the band’s central partnership, according to the band profile.
The group grew from post-punk into a broader electronic and pop-rock vocabulary. The booking therefore connects Simple Minds’ Glasgow art-rock history with a festival line-up that also includes several performers associated with the same musical era.
