Tom Petty’s music and the Heartbreakers’ early archive anchor Origins 1971-1978, a box set due on 6 November 2026 through UMe. The Tom Petty Estate presents the collection as a 50th-anniversary survey of the group’s formative recordings.
Origins 1971-1978 opens Tom Petty’s early archive
The release gathers five albums, a full Blu-ray with high-resolution stereo, Dolby Atmos and 5.1 immersive mixes, plus a DVD carrying a restored BBC performance. The set also introduces previously unreleased material, including Parade of Loons and an extended mix of Fooled Again (I Don’t Like It).
UMe issues the box in 5LP, 4CD and uber-deluxe editions, with each configuration including Blu-ray and DVD. The official 50th-anniversary announcement introduces the project, while release details from UMe list 6 November 2026 for the box set.
Tom Petty’s Gainesville roots shape the collection
Tom Petty’s catalogue is rooted in Gainesville, Florida, and the Heartbreakers’ sound moves across rock, country, folk, punk, reggae and soul. The new collection follows that breadth through early band recordings, archive performances and material from the period when Petty was establishing the group’s musical identity.
Petty also worked with Mudcrutch before the Heartbreakers and later joined the Traveling Wilburys. His solo catalogue includes Full Moon Fever, Wildflowers and Highway Companion; those projects sit outside the box set’s central focus on the Heartbreakers’ early years.
Parade of Loons expands the early Heartbreakers story
On 6 November 2026, the companion album No Sleep Til L.A. is released separately on CD and LP, with a limited Galaxy-colour vinyl variant. A Zoetrope edition is scheduled for 20 November 2026.
