Diani Beach hosts Dance Centre Kenya's The Nutcracker on 6 December 2026 at Diamonds Leisure Beach & Golf Resort. The coastal performance brings the production to Ukunda for the first time as part of its expansion beyond Nairobi.
The Nutcracker reaches Diani on 6 December
The production's Diani date is Sunday, 6 December 2026, one day after its scheduled performance at Cinemax Nyali in Mombasa. Dance Centre Kenya has announced the coastal dates as part of the show's eleventh annual season, which begins at the Kenya National Theatre on 20 November.
The resort performance is the first time the production has travelled beyond Nairobi and Mombasa for a Diani audience. The schedule places the ballet inside the resort rather than on the open beach, giving visitors a named venue for the performance. The date and venue are listed in Dance Centre Kenya's coastal schedule.
The 2026 staging brings together more than 175 dancers representing 25 nationalities. Around 50 scholarship recipients are involved in the production, while 10 scholarship students are scheduled to join the coastal tour.
Live music connects the ballet with Diani
Dance Centre Kenya's orchestra will perform Pyotr Tchaikovsky's score live under Kenyan conductor Antony Muriuki Kaburu. That combination links the Diani date with the production's wider educational focus, which brings young dancers together with professional musicians.
The cast ranges from beginners to advanced pre-professional performers. The scholarship programme is run with Artists for Africa and provides dance training, mentorship and academic support to young people from underserved communities.
The production's coastal expansion therefore adds a performance in a major beach destination to an established Nairobi programme. It also gives visitors in southern Kenya access to the same live orchestral format announced for the national theatre dates. Further production details identify the dancers, scholarship participants and orchestra.
Diani Beach places the event on Kenya's South Coast
Diani Beach lies on Kenya's Indian Ocean coast, south of Mombasa and close to Ukunda. The official Kenya tourism website describes the area through white-sand beaches, coral reefs and coastal greenery, with resorts centred around the beach.
That setting gives the ballet a clear geographical identity: it is a scheduled theatre performance at a resort within the Diani destination, not a general event somewhere in Kwale County. The resort location also places the programme within the established visitor area of the South Coast. Kenya's South Coast guide identifies Ukunda's airstrip, the Likoni ferry crossing and regular buses and matatus as access points for the region.
