The installation at the cathedral is part of a city-wide festival that runs until 22 October.
FLORA brings a public installation to the orange-tree courtyard
Sohee Park has created Halcyon for the Patio de los Naranjos, one of five principal locations used by FLORA 2026. The South Korean artist is presenting the work inside the historic courtyard, while Hamish Powell, Mas Rasa, FLOVER NYC and Taller Banegas are showing installations at four other heritage venues in Cordoba.
The finished installations opened to the public on 16 October 2026 and remain on view through 21 October 2026. The programme closes on 22 October 2026 with Guerrilla FLORA, an event at the Jardines del Huerto de Orive rather than inside the cathedral. FLORA opened on 16 October with all five installations available across the city.
The FLORA installation meets a layered religious history
Halcyon occupies the Patio de los Naranjos, whose present form dates from the late sixteenth century. The courtyard developed from the former Muslim ablutions patio and now forms part of a monument whose architecture brings Islamic and Christian periods together.
The original mosque was built from 786 to 788 under Abd al-Rahman I and was enlarged during the following centuries. After Cordoba was conquered in 1236, the building was consecrated as a Catholic cathedral. A Renaissance transept and choir were added between 1523 and 1607, creating the arrangement that visitors encounter alongside the earlier prayer hall. The monument records its historic phases from the original mosque to the cathedral and courtyard.
The connection between FLORA and the site is therefore specific: a contemporary botanical work is being shown in a courtyard shaped by centuries of religious and architectural change, rather than in a temporary festival hall.
