The Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung is hosting the 2026 Kaohsiung International Steel Sculpture Festival - SUPER STAGE from 23 October to 22 November 2026. The programme places the festival’s main exhibition in Warehouse B3 in the Penglai Area and links it with Hamasen Railway Cultural Park and Yancheng Neighborhood.
SUPER STAGE brings steel art to Warehouse B3
The festival is organised by the Kaohsiung City Government Culture Bureau, the Kaohsiung City Cultural Foundation and the Pier-2 Art Center. The official festival dates and venues list the main exhibition at Warehouse B3 from 23 October to 22 November 2026.
Its wider programme includes on-site creation at Hamasen Railway Cultural Park until 15 November and a satellite programme in Yancheng Neighborhood until 22 November. International forums are scheduled for 24 and 25 October and 21 November, with venues including the Zhenggang Small Theatre and Warehouse B3.
The festival’s stated approach connects steel with factories, ports and neighbourhoods. Artists and designers from South Korea, the Netherlands, Japan, the United Kingdom and France have worked with local industrial settings and materials. The programme also includes workshops, performances and cultural walks linked to Yancheng, Qijin and Kaohsiung Harbour.
Kaohsiung warehouses connect industry and art
The main venue is part of a harbour complex whose former storage buildings have been reused for exhibitions, performances and creative work. The Kaohsiung government’s official venue history records that the warehouses once stored fish meal and sugar for Kaohsiung Harbour.
The transformation gives SUPER STAGE a direct setting for its subject. Rather than presenting steel only as a finished sculpture, the festival links the material to the working history of the harbour warehouses and to the railway infrastructure beside them.
The site was rediscovered in 2000, when Kaohsiung was seeking a location for a National Day fireworks display. An artists’ association formed in 2001, and the Kaohsiung City Bureau of Cultural Affairs took over the centre in 2006.
