Trakai Island Castle in Trakai changed to its autumn opening schedule on 1 October 2026. The castle museum, also identified locally as the island castle, is now open from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays during October and November.
The change gives visitors from Western Europe a clear access point for an autumn visit to one of Lithuania's best-known historic sites. It also marks the start of a seasonal timetable that continues through November before a further winter adjustment.
Trakai Island Castle changes hours for October and November
The new timetable was announced on 1 October 2026 by the Trakai Tourism and Business Information Centre. It applies to Trakai Island Castle in October, November and March, with public access from 10am to 6pm from Tuesday to Sunday.
The castle is closed on Mondays under this schedule. The announcement also says that the last visitors are admitted half an hour before the museum closes, while exhibitions close one hour earlier on the eve of national holidays. The 1 October timetable announcement names both the castle and the period covered.
Autumn hours shape a visit to the castle museum
The seasonal change matters because the castle is not only an exterior landmark. The Trakai History Museum operates exhibitions inside the historic complex, giving the timetable a direct effect on access to the building's interior.
The museum says its central palace has housed an exhibition on the history of Trakai, its castles and the surrounding land since 1962. The western casemates contain 16 exhibition rooms dating from 1992, with collections of applied art including furniture, pipes, seals, clocks, porcelain and glassware. A sacred art exhibition opened in the Dominican chapel in 2005. These parts of the complex mean that the 1 October change affects several distinct museum areas rather than a single viewing point. Details of the exhibitions and the site are provided by the Trakai History Museum.
The same building is therefore experienced differently according to the calendar: the autumn schedule keeps the museum available on six days each week, while Mondays are set aside from regular visitor access. The change links a practical seasonal rule with the castle's continuing role as a museum complex.
